Yes the hard drive and caddy will work. After you format and reinstall the operating system.
    It's a mk6

Thanks for the help. Is it necessary to format and reinstall? I have already upgraded to Windows7 Pro. I was planning to just download the needed drivers on the old machine, then just swap the hard drive to the new one.

How can I check compatibility of other parts? My old unit has factory GPS and backlit keyboard. Are the batteries the same?
From what I am reading the Mrk6 is upgradeable to 8mg Ram. Are both memory chips accessible without having to take the lower half of computer apart? What memory sticks are recommended?

if there is no big reason to just swap the drive/caddy the best route to go is always a full *clean* install .
there is less chance of a conflict between the old stuff and the new stuff .
if you run into problems , it actually would have taken less time to do a clean install .
a re-installation disk is money well spent ... better than a bottle aspirin and hair pulling .
