    Hello,

I am new here and I just purchased a CF-29 to upgrade from my CF-28.

What I would like to know is what mark is my version I tried to look but it didnt show. lol

    CF29LCQGNBM is the number.

Also I would like to know if the Internal GPS that comes with some of the CF-29's really work and if so how well and how many SATS can it track? Reason I ask is the CF-28 internal GPS was crap.

And last can I use my old CF-28 batteries in the MEDIA BAY as a backup battery like the CF-29 is suppose to do, or is that a different battery?

    Thanks

I've been told the GPS in the 29 factory is quite sharp. Its not cheap for the kits though.

Yes the media bay batteries work, I have one in mine currently.

    Hope that helps.

Yes... The 29's GPS is a MUCH improved version over the CF-28... which was crap! (And that is being kind!) The internal media battery will work as will DVD/CD Rom.

You can go here to put in your model number. You will need to add a dash after the CF though... Like CF-29LCQGNBM.

Looks like you have a VERY nice CF-29! Congratulations! Did you pick it up on ebay?

    Hello,

Yes I did, What would be a normal price for the type I got? Mine came with a 80gb HD also which that link didnt show.

So to be correct the REGULAR cf-28 BATTERY will work in my CF-29 in the media slot? Just want to make sure its not a special battery. lol

Thanks also for the link, One question on the keyboard, I assume though backlit its not fully waterproof?

If so Can I add MY cf-28 Rubber Waterproof backlit to my CF-29?

BTW how many Sats does the Internal GPS from Panasonic track?

I also checked my Keyboard on my CF-28 and it has only 2 connectors so I dont think I can use it with the CF-29.

I guess there are 3 types of keyboards from Panasonic Regular, Semi waterproof and fully waterproof or so a reviewer said over in Japan.

    One other thing about the Toughbook Configurator, Panasonics Model number decoder utility;

    http://www.config.toughbook.com/

Is that you need to be using Internet Explorer, the first few times I tried to access it I was using Mozilla Firefox and was very frustrated. I finally just decided to try it in Explorer but others may be having the same problem. Modly? It would be worth mentioning at the sticky link...

I use Explorer already, but for some reason it wasnt working when I first used it, it does now, but only lets me know basic specs. I picked my laptop up for $1400 which looked like a good enough price.

What did it for me was the internal GPS, 1.6ghz, Backlit keyboard, and 512mb onboard ram, which means I can have 1.5gb later. The only flaw is the Power port rubber cover is gone. By the way anyplace I can get one cheap?

I noticed the Batteries for the cf-29 are alot cheaper at $70 average new compared to the cf-28 at $110 average. I always like to get new cells since as you know lithium is date specific on failure.

I make my own recovery disks, and just ordered on Ebay a Driver/Manual disk with Supposedly all the drivers for all models. I think the only Drivers I will need will be for the GPS, but possibly the VC.

BTW is the WIFI Card seperate from the GPS or is it the same card? I plan to remove the Wireless card if its seperate?
