I just won this CF-19 off of eBay, and I need a bit of assistance with it.

First of all, the touchscreen doesn't seem to work. The stylus didn't come with it, but I was under the impression that it would work with just your finger. Do I need drivers or something?

Secondly on the bottom there is a sticker that says Verizon Rev A and it gives a CSN number. Does that mean this Toughbook came with the Verizon EVDO? I didn't see anything on the hardware list that seems to say so.

Also there is a black sticker on the bottom that has a diagram of two squares, one which says EXT. ANTENNA above it, and the other says GPS next to it. What does that mean?

Fourthly, the Windows sticker on the bottom says Windows Vista Business on it, but only Windows XP Tablet 2005 is installed.

    Can anyone help me out?

    My model no. is CF-19CDGC2VM

    Your toughbook specs:

Intel Core Duo U2400 1.06GHz (Centrino), 10.4" XGA with Digitizer, 80GB, 1GB, Intel 802.11a/b/g, Dual pass through(Upper:WWAN, Lower:GPS), WinXP Tablet, TPM1.2,GPS, Bluetooth, Verizon EVDO RevA ,No Optical

The digitizer screen needs a special pen to work
It won't work with just your finger

Hello and welcome to the forums!!! This will be the BEST place to find out info regarding Panasonic Toughbooks!!

First off, because you have a Digitizer model (as per config.toughbook.com) you CANNOT use your finger because that is basically a tablet PC (as apposed to the Touchscreen model that is just XP Pro). The tablet requires the special pen to operate because their are special electronic components in their to make the mouse move (say you hover over the screen with the pen... the mouse will move with the pen)... This is great for signing signatures and whatnot because your palm doesn't interfere with the screen.

According to config.toughbook.com you have internal Verizon EVDO ReV A... You would have to have a service plan to use this through Verizon... about $50-$80/month depending on what you get.

The sticker is referring to your external antenna connections on the back of the laptop if you were to use a docking bay (another expensive add-on)... which is typically used if you were wardriving (riding with a laptop mount in your vehicle). The top external port is for your WWAN (Wireless Wide area network... AKA Verizon EVDO) and the bottom is for your GPS... of which you would require 2 seperate antennas that would mount on the outside of your vehicle.

I cannot speak of the Vista Business as this machine originally came with XP Tablet PC 2005 (hence the digitizer screen).

A bit more help from someone else that has worked with a few of those models.

Any 'penabled' pen will work on it, other pens will not. The Panasonic pens only seem to relay maybe 10 levels of pressure while other pens I've used will do 256. (I work with a couple of artists so I'm painfully aware of the difference, one makes them complain at me :D) Get the drivers right from Wacom to make it work right, not Panasonic.

If you need help with getting any of that to work, toss me a message.

    Jay

    Sure.

As you can see, he didn't provide much information about it, so I was a bit suspicious. Secondly he didn't have any seller ratings, which made me doubly suspicious.

Oh wait a sec. The forum says I need 15 posts or more to post links. xP I'll see if I can PM it to you.

Edit, how do you PM? xP

Nevermind, just remove the spaces from the url below. =]

Did u actually get the machine yet? I don't wanna burst ur bubble, but that is a $3000+ machine... And the fact that you got it for that price leads me to suspicions... I hope you put it on a credit card so that way in case you never recieve it you can at least take it up with your credit card company because PayPal sucks balls to work with on fraudulent orders, and almost ALWAYS you WON'T get all your money back...

you are one lucky person :)

I never would have bid on that with a zero feedback seller but you lucked out congrats. It may be stolen so keep it on the down low. I bought one today for the same price but it has no GPS. you have a killer toughbook . now all you need is the pen.

Yeah. I'm worried it might be stolen. =[ If it is, I hope they give me one exactly like it when they take it away, or at least refund my money.

I don't think anyone will take it away but Just do not send it to Panasonic for any repairs or they may never send it back. Just use it as you bought and paid for it.

you should be very happy with your toughbook :)
