    Hi folks:

I had a CF-18K with a bad main board so I picked up a salvage unit from ebay. The salvage unit has the same model prefix.

The salvage unit was a shell. It was missing keyboard, battery and hard drive (but it was really cheap :) right up my alley!)

I transferred the battery hard drive, keyboard, plastics etc to the shell and powered it up. Working....Yay.

The device manager had some new devices listed though. I cracked open the case and found a Verizon air card assembly in there so I yanked it out. I also yanked a small control panel for the air-card. I think it may be a aircard switch. It was mounted on the front bezel. None of my other units have this feature as we use the hotspot feature of our cell phones. (If anybody is interested in purchasing this extra cellular hardware for their machine let me know)

Now I have a COM4 device that I cannot get rid of. I searched the forum and did not find any reference to com4 with regard to CF-18's

Can someone please tell me what this device is please? What driver is it expecting to find?

    Thanks!

    Hi:

The model of the salvaged/repaired unit is CF-18KHHMXBM

The model it replaced was CF-18KHHZXBM.

I was thinking along the same lines asWyrm73. I thought the COM4 thing was a GPS but I did not see anything in the BIOS about a GPS nor did I see any unfamiliar boards in the machine when I pulled the back cover off. If it is GPS then it must be mounted on the the other side of the main board or I am going blind.

    Thanks

The GPS is mounted on the same daughterboard as the Bluetooth and WWAN. I would look up your model numbers, but I am on my phone right now.

The X in my model number indicates "Base Model".
An A or C would indicate a factory installed GPS option.
It is possible someone could have installed a GPS later but I would think it would pop up in the BIOS right?

The info I posted I got from Panasonic here Panasonic Mobile Computing Configure Products . Yes they could of added it but my guess it did not have one in it...you did say you got it cheap ...yes. That is why I would say it did not have one.

Yeah I pretty much thought anyone would have yanked the GPS out if they saw it.
So now I am back to square one. The model number does not indicate Bluetooth was installed but it does seem like Bluetooth could pull a COM port.
Is Bluetooth part of the Intel Wifi card? I though it was that stamp sized board located in the center of the machine.
Both the old and salvage unit have that little board in them
I have the device disabled in device manager but curiosity of it all is just gnawing away at me :)
