Is the key necessary for the CF-28? Anyone know where to get one?
Thanks,

Are you speaking of the actual metal key to turn the lock on the on/off switch? As long as it is unlocked you don't need it. You can make your own with a little ingenuity... As long as you can find a key blank that fits the slot... You can slide the blank key in the lock and twist it back and forth several times. The tumblers will leave a mark on the metal. You can then file the key in the spots where the marks are... Just a LITTLE at a time. I watched and locksmith do this for a padlock and he had a working key for me in 20 minutes.
They selll replacement tumblers for $200+... Very cost prohibitive. -
The key is necessary if it is locked. If unlocked, you will not need a key. If it is locked, you will not be able to power it on. They are pretty much the only part available from Panasonic ($47). These keys are not easy to duplicate. I have a number of them - If you let me know what the code is on your lock (near the key slot), I will let you know if I have it. We will be selling them on eBay soon.

I'll be in line to buy one...

same here............
well not 100% sure but most likely buy one, just so its fully complete then............. -
Thanks! That's a very generous offer! I posted this before I got my CF-28, and now that I have it find a black "blanking" panel or sticker where a key would go; so I either don't have a lock, or it's covered. I don't want to ruin the blank - do you think there's a lock under it?
-
most likely it have been taken out my mate has a ex-bt toughbook and is eactly the same, the locks have been take out and blanked off....
still its better then having just a hole there............ -
Hey Bruce... Any word on when you'll start selling them?
-
I'd be up for buying one of them Locks too
-
looks like everyone wants one.........
-
Any word on this yet??? Or did the guy just post and blow out of town?
-
he said he'll let everyone know once he will be selling them,
or he could have already sold them -
anyway about the code on the right,
if there is a code doent that mean any keycutter can make one????????? -
could alwys drop your laptop on your local shoe repair counter and ask for a key
be worth it for the look on their face
but seriously, might work -
Nope... I've been checking daily... -
think am going to try it, when i get time,
once i lost my keys for the van and the keycutter made me a new set just from the code on the lock..........
wish i could do that
