Is anyone other than me having the problem of the emissive keyboard's plastic key caps breaking and falling off?![]()
So far, I've had four caps break their tiny retaining fingers and the caps then falling off.![]()
I have been using a little dab of silicone sealer to glue them back in place, but this has gotten old real quickly!![]()

I've been using an emissive keyboard on my "old" CF-30 daily since the day I got it almost two years ago with no problems. What are you doing when they break off, typing, cleaning, other? They seem to be pretty durable, subjectively, more so than the standard keyboard as the keys are sort of embedded.

Are you using the hammer you use on your rubber keyboard on your emissive keyboard?

I have seen the ebay Toughbooks that are sold with missing keys
My guess is

The kep cap attachment on this keyboard is rather flimsy; just four tiny plastic "fingers" to attach the cap to the plastic spring/plunger mechanism.
The cap itself does not actually do the actuation; only acts as the interface between the finger and the actuator plunger.
FYI: This is the keyboard I bought from Rob, if that makes any difference at all (it shouldn't). It is the emissive w/o the F Key Icons. -
The one you got from me woulda been brand spanking new too...
FWIW: I've NEVER had ANY problems with my keyboard other than the 1 key getting some junk stuck under it which i fixed by cleaning it out with air. My keyboard is from April of 2005 and has been through hell and back with me. Some keys like the C key and the shift key and control key are starting to wear completely blank from so much use

And I have no idea why this one is having the breakage problems it's having.

My advice is to calm down and not let this board upset you so bad!
Between me and you, there are some very opinionated people on this board and they are just not worth the aggravation... -

I was thinking defective as in bad plastic or caps actually molded incorrectly, causing them to break prematurely. Not anything to do with the actual function of the keyboard.
Perhaps the aluminum was stamped wrong, putting too much stress on the plastic fingers. Unless you are typing like a gorilla, or actually using a hammer, I seriously can't imagine you doing anything to break the keys that easily.
I bet the keyboards are all made by Chicony, whose name I saw on a regular Panasonic keyboard somewhere. I have pried keys off and put them on other bases to make one keyboard out of two. 99.5% of the time I don't break the keys even when doing that with a screwdriver. -
