I have a cf 48 mk3 that I keep getting a keyboard error on. I t will not pass post. It comes up system configuration data updated error 0211 keyboard error. It will not change with an external keyboard. It was working fine but now I have this problem. Any thoughts?

The first thing that popped into my mind is a stuck key. You may not see it but it may be stuck.
Have you tried disconnecting the keyboard? -
Just tryed to disconnect keyboard, no chainge. Any more ideas?
-
So with the internal keyboard disconnected, it's still popping up with that error?
I'm stumped with that one.
Is there anything that has changed recently? Spill anything? Install anything? Throw it at the neighbour's barking dog? -
Did you ever get a fix on this? I have the same issue on a MK2.
-
I have this same issue. Just finished a build and loaded everything up.... I am getting a 0211 keyboard error. I've swapped keyboards, removed RAM, hard drive, etc and I am still getting the error. I know that I will eventually figure this out but I am trying to get this staged for pics and put up on ebay tonight... I don't want to waste my time unless I have to.
Anyone with a special wand? Any ideas? -
-
Yup... The thing is... I had it working perfectly for an order for a fire department that backed out at the last minute. They didn't want a touchscreen though... So I swapped in a Touchscreen for the auction. Nothing else was touched. Now I get the error no matter what combination I try... Even with everything out except what is needed to boot up... Which is really nothing.
I'm going to reinstall the non touch and see what happens. The thing is... When I was installing the new screen... I think I bent the connector for the touchscreen a little. It looked fine but that may be the culprit. I just can't imagine that giving me the error though...
EDIT: Just changed out screen... No difference. -
I checked the Reference manual, op manual, and service manual; no joy. I wish that I could help.
All of the sources mention peripherals, but you eliminated that. -
I'm thinking it may be a piece of detritus stuck somewhere it's not supposed to be... Like a small screw or a flake of metal or something. It could be just about anything.... The bummer is that it was working fine last week with the other screen.
<silently steaming> -
That's the worst error you can get on a 28. It could be touchpad, touchscreen, touchscreen controller, I/O pcb, or the mainboard. Try unplugging each in turn to figure it out.
-
It was working fine just last week! I swapped screens and it went to crap all of a sudden! I don't have time for analysis right now... I'll start on another one and leave this one for when I have time... I guess I'm not posting one on ebay tonight.
Thanks for the info. -

I did find the problem, but it is on a cf 48,it was a bad sub board.I is where the keyboard and mouse plug in.It works when it wants to.Goodluck finding your problem.

I split the case before I put it back in the boneyard.... That was my thought... Maybe I had buggered the connection where the touchpad swings around and connects... It was fine. I took a quick peek at everything and nothing seemed out of place. I had another one that was close to being finished... I just started on that one and swapped the drive over to the new one. I listed one on ebay last night and will pro baby list the other tonight or tomorrow. Then I have a 29 to build by tomorrow night. (Working on it now and waiting for the GPS to show up!) And then I have a 28 build to start for someone who wants the 12" screen for use on his boat.
A modders work is never done.
When I DO eventually figure out what it is... I'll post back here.... -
For a quick check, you can unplug the LCD cable and power it up. If you get the BEEP-BEEP you know the top isn't the problem. If you don't get it, you know it's either the cable, touchscreen, or touchscreen controller pcb.

TB can be Stinky... Pappy, you can be Pigpen... and y'all can call me... Fluffy.

Okay... This is EXACTLY what I was talking about... I DO NOT want to be Stinky!!! I'll be either Jean Luc or Capt. Kirk!
Okay... Okay... Since I STILL haven't worked out that whole beaming thing... I'll be Pigpen... BUT THAT'S IT!
(Actually... My wife would think Pigpen fits. heh heh heh... One look at my shop and.....) -
So... On both it is either the Touchscreen, Touchscreen controller pcb or the cable going from the mobo to the LCD????? Please let me know ASAP.... I'll go down there NOW with the multimeter...
Who am I kidding????? I'm headed to bed! Thanks for the (hopefully) good news in narrowing this down to 3 things from 52! -

i fixed my problem, it was the ribbon cable tht went from the keyboard/mouse board to the motherboard. One of the pins somehow got f-ed up; i took some pictures of it, although i dont have them downloaded yet. This rubber keyboard is somewhat difficult to type on. It defiatly takes some getting used to.
p.s i'm typing on my PIII 500 CF-27 60gig 320meg super pimped machine. such that i didn't have time to read all the posts, even though they seemed as if they may not have been on topic..... -
Pigpen, you still there?

The cable looks okay (Though I'll check more thoroughly) so I need to take the LCD cover off and check out the touchscreen controller? (Is that where it is?) -
I would give that a try. The touchscreen ribbon goes into a very small pcb that feeds into another a little over an inch long. That longer one is the controller. The short one just converts the ribbon to a wire and almost never goes bad (I've only had one out of about 2000 28s ever go bad). Try the ribbon first. If it beeps, try the controller.

Check the keyboard ribbon cable for bent over pins...mine had a few.

Little late in this thread but also just had this issue after having the case split on a 28. Mine was with the transmissive style keyboard and I think it was one of the connections to the little board at the back of the lower case. I split the case after checking the Keyboard connections as well as the monitor (monitor was a non touch). Put it back together and no issue's - works fine now. I know not much help but that's my story - later

I'm STILL stuck on this thing! I'm about ready to just label it and chuck it on the bone pile!
I can disconnect the keyboard AND the LCD and STILL get the keyboard error beeps! Plus the 3 most left lights (Caps Lock, Num Lock and the scroll lock) all light up just before the error hits. I thought I found the problem as I found a piece of crud shavings (Not sure what it was made out of) bridging the connections on the right side video connector. I blew that out of there and still get the error.
I'm getting little frustrated here. I think I'll just end up taking the parts out to use on another laptop. It shouldn't take but an hour or so to swap everything over.
Any ideas out there? -
Disconnect everything but the speaker and CMOS battery, and add things one at a time until it starts beeping again. Like I said earlier, almost anything can cause it. I/O pcb, I/O pcb cables, touchpad, touchpad cable, keyboard, touchscreen, touchscreen pcb, and so on.
-
Just for the hell of it, disconnect the trackpad. I'm still out of ideas after that.
Edit; Or do what ZeroFlight said as I was typing... Makes more sense.
If disconnecting everything still results in the problem, pull the mobo, blow it with compressed air, and soak it in alcohol for a bit (The rubbing kind, not the good stuff). Scrub it with a toothbrush to ensure debris and other possible crap (Flux even?) is gone.
Let it dry for a few days before re-installation.
