Started out just wanting to get a little newer Toughbook than my trusty 27. Next thing I know I have bought 2 28's off Ebay with the thoughts of keeping the best parts off both to have one really good one, and then selling the other one.

Well, now I have sold my old 27, both of the original 28's I bought, and currently have 3 28's on hand, and one more on the way [a 29].

    This is insane!

I get one and it is dirty and neglected, with sticker residue and spilled milk on the keyboard. I get out the alcohol and the Goo gone. I clean 'em up and make sure everything works. I buy replacement covers and hard drives. Then I kinda hate to see 'em go, and have yet to see any real profit, but I really like foolin' with 'em and it keeps me off the streets anyways....

You guys are K-I-L-L-I-N' me here. :D

Same here, I sold one of my 28s and I end up now having 2 cf-29,still one cf-28 on ebay right now for auction and two cf-m34 while my plan is having only one just to use for travelling.

Sooner or later, all corners of my apartment having a toughbook on display.

I'm re-building the "unwanted parts" machine into something worth using, then it's going on ebay. So far I have (3) and I'm still enjoying the CF28 rush so no need for a 29 yet. I'm trying to be frugal and practical, and I'm still grabbing parts for my main system, and for my "project" machine so I'm still on this side of the curve.

I use my main CF28 every single day at least 14 hrs a day, and I have to say it's holding up so well. I may wear out the keyboard though, so I'm looking for spares ;) I believe we have to be the strangest (and coolest) people on this site. Most of us have them to use in the situations any other laptop might fear to tread. I have much faster machines, but when it's fast enough for what I use them and when they will take the beating real world use offers, who cares? I am stalking another 1ghz system to do a motherboard transplant. I'm also pondering refinishing the "unwanted parts machine" as a fun project as I learn how to do it right. Maybe I'll make it desert camo, and paint the bezel and the top of the base as well. Don't bother me, I'm trying to snipe something from ebay (more parts) ;)

My wife just asked me how many Toughbooks do I really need? I started to justify the amount that I had (7 working and a few in various states) she said I had a problem and she was going to do an intervention - She just does not get it :) I love these things

mega-man, there is a cure for this situation: give her one to call her own. i find my self in the same place as you guys. (4) 48's, (2) 72's, (1) 25 and sold a 48 about a month ago. the 48 i gave my wife was sitting on the kitchen table and our 2 year old daughter climbed up, on, and over her 48. the magnesium saved the day, of course no damage! my wife loves to tell the story at her work. love these things!!

Actually she does have one - a very sweet CF-72 with internal wifi mod. That's her problem I think she thinks that since she has one we have enough. I just have to keep them out in the garage so she does not see them all in one place - Incidentally the same thing I have to do with guns - I also don't here her complain when I turn $300 dollars into $850 for a cleaned up TB.

    edit:

this thing is great, I don't see getting another any time soon due to price, and the fact I'm not finished with this one.

I've recently upgraded the RAM, replaced all the port covers, and put in a rubberized keyboard, and am eyeballing internal GPS systems.
