Are all LCDs created equal? That is the same size and resolution? I am specifically speaking about a 15" for a CF 50 The panel I have is a broken ITUX97C. There are a lot of available 15" UXGA out there that are different brands. Obviously, brand matters matters for contrast and performance.
One more question. According to the model number, the CF 50 that I am piecing together originally had an XGA. Any problem using the UXGA assembly instead?

    Thanks

You should buy a replacement screen for your model. Unless you are prepared to dig into schematics and possible rewire connectors!

I am not afraid to rewire, but, I saw this ad on Fleabay and it got me curious.
Item number 280359042636. Read down to where it says details. I did some checking and the bit about a standard 30 pin connector is accurate.
This guy also sells other universal LCDs with 20 pin connectors.
This is just a project I am messing around with. My good CF 50 works fine. This is something I am scavenging cheap parts to build for the heck of it.
If LCD's are somewhat interchangeable then it makes replacing screens a lot cheaper for anyone who needs one. A LCD for a Thinkpad or a HP is easier to obtain than one for a Toughbook. I believe there is only one 15" inverter for a CF 51 and CF 50, but they use XGA and UXGA and these are different brands of LCD's. Does Panasonic use different MB's for every different resolution or LCD size? I don't know, but I am curious. I just read a post about switching CF 28 and/or CF 27 LCD's. If it works on the 12" and 13", why not the others? Hmm??
Maybe, if someone doesn't know for sure, I will spend the $ and experiment. I have a minimal amount invested so far. If it goes up in smoke, well I learned something.

The 50 and 51 not only use different connectors, but they use different numbers of connectors. I was going to do the same swap when I still was fooling around with the 51's, but I gave up since the mobo connectors are different and the wiring is VERY small going to both. I kept trying to find one with the same connectors as mine, but gave up and sold the parts unit I bought for the screen.
