Hi all, anyone else seen the "Live Security Platinum" virus?
Was downloading W8 release preview and this thing kicked MSE and windows firewall into the ditch.
Caught something very similar a year or two back, can't remember the name of it though.
No, I didn't click on anything - but task mgr, ctrl/alt/del & the power switch wouldn't do anything so I pulled the power.
Started in safe mode. MSE dead, firewall dead, Clamwin couldn't access scores of items so closed it. Malwarebytes found 6 items but the log file's disappeared and MSE's still dead.
LSP links in start menu, taskbar & desktop seem dead but I think I'd better look for remnants in the registry anyway.

Just checking online - on a different laptop - turns out this virus has been p!ssing on MSE since 1st June at least - I should have guessed that when Microsoft gives something away for free it's because it's worthless.
    Bunch of twinkies.
Now thinking W8 might be overpriced at 40 cents...

Time to do a system recovery or a clean install my friend, only way to be certain you got rid of it.

OH, and dont forget to scan all your USB-drives, CDs and DVDs you have burned the past months. etc. I sometimes also have to format my PC because of a virus. Several times i got a new one. Guess what the source was : I've got many USB sticks, and on several of them was the damn virus. Even some DVDs i burned got it, so just a hint.

Formatting a PC, and then continuing to use USB sticks/DVDs etc can get the virus back on it.

    Yeah, viruses suck.
