Hi, hoping someone can tell me if the later CF-19's have better touchpads than my Mk.1? It's so vague and twitchy it takes forever to hit the spot. As it were.

Maybe the 30 or 31 have better touchpads? Both my 29 Mk.5's are just as bad as the 19. The 19 is worn shiny but the 29's look pristine.
I've tried different drivers, settings, Windows versions, browsers. Cleaned pad edges, cleaned connectors etc., no noticeable improvement.
I think the touchpads are probably working as well as they were designed to work but if anyone knows of a fix I might be able to stop thinking about upgrading...

Got to upgrade sometime but unless the newer rugged touchpads are much better than these earlier models I'll have to choose from the business-ruggeds like my 52. It's a great machine with a great touchpad but it's not that tough.

Have you tried changing the setting in the mouse properties. In any of Toughbooks I have never had a problem with my touch pad (18, 19 or 30)

    unclemack, press it harder :)
I like CF-19's touchpad, you have to get used to it, but after that it works even under rain etc.

I've tried everything I know including mouse properties. All three tp's work so I can't say there's a problem exactly - they're only terrible compared to the 52 which is after all a later machine and runs W7x64. Don't know if that makes a difference.

I can place its cursor on a full stop (period) from across the screen in a second with hardly any need for correction at all - and can easily correct position by a single pixel if I want to (eg. in photoshop)

With the 19 & 29's it takes way longer with more fiddling around just to hit, say, a link. It's not GPScrazymouse bad, it's just not as good as I'd like.

To be fair the 52 does have the best tp I've tried. Maybe I'm just hoping for too much?

I'm not actually expecting there to be a fix... more concerned about finding out if the later models might suit me better.

    Thanks!

The difference is, the fully rugged Tbs have a touchpad, which u can use also with gloves, but they work with (more) pressure and 2 sheets of conductive material. The touchpad on all other models are capacitive, it works with a little touch of an electroconductive contact of ur body on the non conductive material of the touchpad surface and the other side of this as a capacitor.

Thank you all for your answers!

If the tp's haven't improved in accuracy or sensitivity over the last 5 years then I may as well just keep the ones I have and stop looking at later 19, 30, 31's.

Maybe I'll look for a later 52 and one of those fast little business models I hadn't considered before.

I have noticed the touch-pad on my 31 MK2 requires a hard tap
to get it to work. As or movement it's fine, just when you want to
    "click" on something.

my cf-19 mk5 is certainly not as smooth as the apple magic pad, but certainly very well useable.
And I really like to use the dualscreen as well. Biggest tp I ever had!!! lol

Certainly was nice to meet! Looooong drive though, at least for Dutch understandings, took me almost 5 hours to get back home! On the way to you I did it in little over 3 hours.

On topic: so the mk6 touchpad should be better than my mk5? Funny thing is that I alternate between touch/digitizer screen and touchpad. Using the screen for quick hits, and the TP when I need pinpoint accuracy.

Some day we might have a gathering!

But you have a nice collection as well! I'm still trying to find my second laptop: like-new CF-19 mk3 for €300 :D Or a CF-31 mk1 of the same price hahaha.

It's nice to read books outside, while everyone is protectiong kindle's next to the pool, squinting at unreadable iPad's.
    Disadvantage is certainly it's weight!!
At night in bed I prefer my iPhone, it saves me from a lot of grumpy comments from my wife about the level of light (even though it's really low on low, it gives a lot more light than my iPhone).
