Well I was kibitzing around with my CF-29N, jumping off cliffs and refusing to leave well enough alone when I stared thinking, why not upgrade the BIOs? I mean that's risky right? :D

So I tool over the various Panasonic Support Sites and find that the latest version available is 500L13 released on 06/21/2006 on the Canadian site.

Great, so I do a quick check and find out that my computer has 5.00L14 released on 8/3/2006!

So, what gives? Do I have a super secret never released BIOs on my machine? Or have I failed to find the "latest" version?

Nope, my BIOs seems to be working just fine, and I am well aware of the risks of updating a BIOs when you are not having a obvious problem. The only real issue I have is with Bluetooth and I honestly do not think that a new BIOs will fix that!

I am just curious why it appears newer then the latest version posted on the Panasonic website. It is interesting to hear that you have the same version as I.

nah... he's undergoing therapy to wean off the cliff-jumping habit! [IMG]

For the heck of it, I looked into my 29N... V5.00L14 as well. No bluetooth hiccups with that teeny weeny module in the rear. What's up with yours??

Bill is a tinkerer like the rest of and can't leave well enough alone... Which is why we are ALL here! ;)

I'm not sure why the different sites show different things. The MAIN Panny sites shows NO BIOS UPGRADE for that model. The MK1,2&3 have BIOS updates available to allow EDGE and EVDO support.... But that was it. Yours came with that already... So you are set!

I'm still interested in playing around in the BIOS but I doubt anyone could "unlock" any hidden potential that Panny already hasn't provided for. The rest is up to us! :)

I was wondering about this issue also. I have a Mk 3 and there is a BIOS update for this TB and I am debating should I update or shouldn't I that is the question!! I attempted a BIOS update on a Dell once and it was a total failure!

"If all else fails, read (and follow!) the instructions." ;)

I upgraded my SBC Mk3's BIOS to v3.00L13 w/o any problems.

VERY easy.... Download the BIOS update and the PDF explaining how to do it. Have your floppy drive ready as well as a spare floppy. It will tell you how to extract the BIOS update to the floppy.... Then MAKE SURE that you have your battery charged AND have your laptop plugged in.... Boot to the floppy and it should give you a prompt. Some models you need to type BIOSUP to get it started.

Pretty hard to screw up unless you unplug your laptop and take out the battery half way through. I keep ALL BIOS updates on floppy for every model so if I have one come through with an old BIOS revision... I update it. For some models it makes no difference for what I do but I never know what the end user may want to eventually do so I update it anyway.

Most servers have a backup BIOS so that endusers can't brick their server with an improperly applied BIOS update.

I'd like to see Panasonic do something similar.
