Before going too much further down the Windows 10 "solutions" rabbit hole on the web, I thought I'd ask if any of you have had this problem and how you fixed it.

In brief: I've gone into Settings > System > Power & Sleep to "Choose what closing the lid does." I've picked "sleep" for both battery and plug. Machine has been restarted, settings remain, but machine doesn't sleep (screen stays on) when lid is closed. I've updated display drivers but problem remains. It's a cf-31 mk4 running Windows 10 pro. Has anyone dealt with this? Thanks.

Yes. Change it to do nothing then click apply.
Now change it back to go to sleep when closed and click apply.
    Should work now.

Just tried that. No change unfortunately. BTW, the computer will go to sleep or hibernate by means of the on-off switch (which I've set), so it's def something in the lid side of things, software or hardware.

Try touching a magnet to the bottom right of palmrest. Right where the lights are. If it goes to sleep then you are missing the magnet from the antenna cover.

Okay, of all the great tips I've gotten over the years, that's got to be the best. Unfortunately, it didn't put it to sleep, so it's not a missing magnet. I did try it on my CF-30, though, and she went out like a light. Still searching . . . .

Last thing you could try is uninstalling the Panasonic power management program. Then configure the Windows lid settings.
Only other possibility is the power switch board is defective. You have to remove the palmrest sticker and power switch. We have the parts here if you are wanting to swap it.

Thanks for the suggestion Steve--it may come to that. For now I found a way of putting sleep and hibernate icons on my taskbar, so with a finger poke I'm done. Pretty convenient, and I don't need the lid closed anyway.

That and the Shell program (which makes W10 look like W7) have made the 31 as user friendly as my W7 30.

Well I'll be damned--that's it BaRRmaley!! Forgot there was even such a thing in BIOS, and hadn't ever experienced one that was disabled. Much appreciated.

In the meantime, if any of you don't know how to put various commands on your taskbar in Windows 10, here's a dandy page that explains how. There are a couple of methods, but this one, which involves downloading pstools, works beautifully.

    Thanks for the help, everyone.

Ok, disassemble, resolder CPU, reassemble, then check bios setting :)
I'm using terrible (donor) condition CF-19 MK6 as my router-server (Centos 7) and sometimes after updates it decides to sleep when the lid is closed. That's why lid switch is disabled in it's bios, this parameter reliably overrides any OS settings :) By the way, the best router I've ever had.
