I thought a picture might come in handy for someone who was researching this power supply for our books.

I also note that the power adapter has an 8A fuse on the input side (inside the cigarette lighter connector) ...

The Lind adapter (according to the label on the unit itself)

    Input: 12-16vdc 8.0A
    Output: 15vdc 4.0A

According to the instruction sheet, the PA1540 will support:

    CF01, CF25, CF27, CF35, CF45, CF47, CF61, CF62, CF63 and Toughbook 71 series.

    (I am using it on a cf28)

At some point I will drain both my batteries in the CF28, throw a clamp-on current meter on it and see how much current it really draws. I will update this then.

One thing to note is that the connector on the other end of the cigarette lighter is an exact match for the TB's power connector so if you need a replacement power cable for the laptop itself that might be an alternate source (if you just happen to have a bad Lind PS lying around)

ETA: Here is an image of the Lind DC-DC adapter cable (the one that used to have a cigarette lighter plug on it) with the Andersen power-pole. This allows me to use any 12VDC source (including a cigarette lighter receptacle with the suitable adapter) :)

I love mine. It's traveled quite a bit too!

I think I've used it for at least 3500 miles, and it's been in my car for another 10,000.

I remember THESE! I've got a couple - they got pretty warm if the battery's low and drawing a hard charge; but they worked well(I never knew about their broad operating voltage range). I think I moved to the newer Xtend models for my last two laptops because they were 100% MOSFET, while the Lind units I had were still using conventional transistors(about 40% less efficient and more than twice the heat per watt output). I Imagine Lind has updated this model to 100% MOSFET design by now; if not yer really wasting a lot of power as heat.

I saw those too last week. I expect they are great, but it would be nice to see some specs in the ebay seller's listing. I guess that was too much trouble. I do know one thing, they're probably very useful to have as backups and you can use Panasonic (or anyone else's) DC-DC converters for a lot of other useful things... Imagine you wanted to build an auxiliary LI-ION battery back (an external) well you could certainly charge it with that... Do you need a quick 15vdc power supply good for at least 4.0 amps? Wire that baby up. The prices for "new" DC-DC converters will be at least $20 more than those. I have a couple extra that will work with IBM Thinkpad or the CF28 (tested both with a "CF28 power supply" already) It's getting to be an obsession sticking andersen power-pole connectors on everything but it's like having a power construction toy set with all the various combinations and situations I can cover. (In other words it's cool to be able to power a Thinkpad and a Toughbook from the same power supply, and then use that same power supply to CHARGE a 12AH/12VDC Sealed lead-acid battery when I happen to be near an AC outlet... (connect it to a solar charge controller and guess what? It thinks that it is a solar panel and starts charging your batteries at 4-6 amps) Yes Sir.. you can charge your car battery with that laptop power supply ;)

    Best!!!

Thanks for the reply. I'll probably pick up one of those and then look for a Lind as well. When your in backwoods Alaska during the summer it sure doesn't hurt to have some backups. I'll also look into the folding solar panels.

Yes, that is an xray of my neck. That is a titanium plate and screws. There are also some PEEK implants in there between the vertabrae. The whole thing should have fused into a solid piece of bone from the top to the bottom of the plate. It didn't. So a revision surgery looms in the future.
