I have an L series Mk4, NEw 160 gig samsung HD 8 mb cache, I have dvd drive internal.
Problem is that I do the install and it does an install that takes better part of an hour and then it states that the system will restart and continue installation.
Well after the restart it goes right back to the beginning install and just loops and never finishes. I tried changing the boot sequence but to no avail.
    Any input?
Can I load the drive on another compu and switch?

I am also getting the cable error in the bios boot?
Anyone know why when I do a search I get an "INvalid Query " in the forum?

:D Welcome to the Toughbook Forum :D
We have been finding that the last 6 months or so many members have been having problems with the newer samsung 160 drives...not sure why. Does it show up in the BIOS? .You also can save yourself a lot of trouble by getting the restore disk for your 29. No drivers to load...it does it all for you . Try this search instead, the NBR search does not work good

Thanks for the replies, the 160 does show up in the bios. This being recognized do you think I still need a different drive?
I am so tired of dealing with E Bay, at one time it was a good tool but now I get nothing but grief from shippers sending wrong parts which Ebay makes you pay return shipping if listed this way. Or they allow Powersellers not to follow their agreements. Losts hundreds and spent tens of thousands with them.
Is their anyway to buy the restore cd's on a download sales theme?

Another thing is that the drive was not in a sealed static bag. I always believe that a new drive should come sealed.
    thanks for the reply.

NOTES: I have the drivers on a USB drive.
I also after failing to load the OS deleted the partitions and then tried to format one contiguous partition, would not format without error. I then tried to format 100/60 split and it will would not format.
Placed drive into HP Latitude laptop and the drive worked fine.

Yes, the issues you describe are characteristic of the above-mentioned firmware compatibility issue with the more recent Samsung IDE hard drives. Do a low-level format on the HDD in another laptop; if it completes successfully, you have a good drive that simply isn't Toughbook-compatible.

Download HDD Low Level Format Tool 4.25 Free - Utility for low-level hard disk drive formatting - Softpedia

Some vendors sell new "pull" HDDs; usually they will describe them as such, but as long as they don't describe them as "NIB" or "New Sealed" it is not uncommon to see them packed in taped-shut baggies.

Yeah, I think it sucks too, but even the vendors selling "NIB" on fleaBay are rarely able to confer the MFR warranty to the EU(Most MFRs flatly refuse to warranty product sold on eBay, even with legitimate receipts and history), so what the heck difference does it make? I mean, you gotta know you're taking a gamble, buying on eBay is just like buying at a Flea Market. Only you don't get to handle & inspect the product until after it's paid for. We all hope for a bargain; sometime we get lucky, sometimes not.
