Hello everyone, I'm new here and this is my first post. I've been reading the posts here for a while and you are a most excellent group of people. I am looking for a junk (good for parts only) keyboard; the standard white-key non-illuminated type for a CF28 Mk I. I need the little plastic "scissor" mechanism that goes under the right-arrow key, which keeps the key level and connected to the base of the keyboard, while allowing it to travel vertically. These can be replaced if you know how and are careful. Mine is partially broken (it was when I got it) which makes that key unstable. I've read your posts about the fragile keyboard connector so I don't want to try changing the keyboard (and mine is very nice and clean and works well except for that one issue), and I don't want to destroy a good keyboard to get the part that I need, so I'm hoping someone can point me to a junk one that I can get the part from (crossing my fingers here). If I can get this I can have it fixed in ten minutes. I can use PayPal or some other means to pay for this if someone has one to sell. Thanks for reading this.

I only need one; this is for model CF-28MBFAZEM (standard keyboard, white individual keys, non-illuminated), just so you know for sure which keyboard I mean. What arrangements can we make to make this happen? Let me know, I'm ready to do it; just not sure how to contact you other than this forum. Thanks very much.

ohlip - I have enabled the "receive email from members" option, but it looks like that feature is not turned on for this forum, so I'm not sure how we can contact each other privately (assuming you're willing to make some sort of deal). The "send private message" feature doesn't seem to be working either; perhaps it is also turned off... I'm not very familiar with the workings of these forums... Would be very interested in one of those keyboards you have however...

I tried to get the PM you sent but when I try to get into my private messages (from user cp) I get a message saying the following:

"AJ1955, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons"

Not sure why that is... Any ideas?

HELP! Apparently my account will not allow me to send private messages. I am still getting the "AJ1955, you do not have permission to access this page." message when I try to use the private messaging feature. Please tell me what I can do about this, or perhaps you can contact Toughbook and ask him to contact me or reply to this thread. I sent a reply to your email.

    Thanks.

AJ....I am pretty sure you are in good hand now with "toughbook" As I said I am willing to give you all of my junk keyboard for cf-28 but the postage will be morethan enough to buy a used one in USA as I live in BC, canada. Let me know if you still want it.

    ohlip - (forgot to quote)

The money isn't much of a problem, I just want to get my keyboard working right. I've been corresponding with Toughbook and he's going to send me some parts. Thanks for your help also.

Thanks, but I'm not brave enough! I spent too much time reading all the horror stories about people breaking the connector on the motherboard! Not only did I read the tales of woe told by Toughbook; after reading those I did a search and I read every one that I could find! So I'm 'way too scared now. Like with many things, knowing too much can be bad (or not knowing enough; "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing" as the saying goes). But thanks anyway.

Yeah... I have scads of junk keyboards... Same thing... Pay for postage and you get them... Plus a thing or two more.

The connector really isn't a problem. If you read all the horror stories... They usually tell the tale AFTER they've already broken it... THEN they find the site here looking for a solution. If they were like me... They used their fingernail to pop it up and it came off. If treated with respect and handled carefully.... You won't have a problem. The only one I ever broke was that first one. (Which I was able to work around by the way) I haven't broken one since and I've swapped hundreds of keyboards...
