    Hey Everyone,

I am looking for opinions on a Toughbook tablet/convertible for use at work. Here is everything I am looking for:

    Daylight readable
    8 hr + battery life
Enough power to play back 1080p movies while browsing very large PDFs
And basically idiot proof...pouring rain, mud, and dust/sand need to not be an issue.
    SmartCard reader capable
    Wifi
GPS is nice but not required

I had a CF-29 for personal use a while back and loved it, but for work I need something that just plain works not matter what the condition and can be imaged to be idiot proof. Basically boot it up and have a folder of PDFs and a folder of videos is what we are going for. Money isn't a big deal as it's just a proof of concept right now but ultimately I want to be able to use the most economical new Toughbook for this purpose.

    It's all about CF-19.
My CF-19 even has internal SmartCard reader :)
    But
2-4 batteries (if we talk about heavy load)
How do you do that "while"? :) I can't imagine. You need 32+ inches screen for that.

One of the programs we are working on is an interactive inspection checklist. Basically the checklist with technical information and each step will have an option to be clicked and show a demonstration video of the step shown over the PDF. No it's not constant load, but it does need to be snappy and responsive.

    What about an FZ-G1?

Also, It looks like Panasonic tries to push the H2 for applications like this but I'm concerned it wont be able to take the videos. I have been in warehoused before that use H2s for inventory control and they never seemed to be as punchy as they should be.

check out the Motion C5v and later series....
    I have a C5v with an i3 and it rocks..Current models have i7 cpu..
it has usb, gps capable.wifi, wlan, very water resistant.
do you mean smartcard as in credit card sized? Pretty sure Motion has a addon card reader...

We just got a bunch of H2s in, all under 200 hours. I could test one out with video and large PDFs and report back if you want. Lemme know.

Thanks everyone, but the local Panasonic is going to loan us some CF-19s to see if it works for us. Thanks again for all your advice.

I wonder if any notebook without a cooling fan could display 1080p movies in 1080p?

    I'm sure they can :)
I can't check 1080p because my CF-19 only has VGA output and max resolution for (my) external 1080 monitor is 1440x900.
But I've checked 720p video with this resolution - CPU is 40-50% under different scenes.
    1080p videos (~20GB) on the built-in display (1024x768) don't make my laptop hot :)

    P.S. Just got CF-19 MK5 and I still don't like it's smaller (vs MK4) display :(

Since I've bought Chromecast dongle, I don't use cables between laptop and TV :))
I was extremely happy after mk2 to mk3 upgrade :))

I agree...I love my CF-19MK5 too. The screen is just a little smaller but it's fast and even faster with a SSD :D

I've tried MK4 and MK5 without backlight with external tactical flashlight :))
MK5 is cool - 100% visible :) So I'll get advantage in battery life under the sunlight.
But that black frame makes me angry :)
Will change it to the better one (mine has too much wear for me), maybe they have different frames :)))
