This is a quick dumb question, but it will save me some time. Does anyone know what is the correct size screw for the "center screw" inside the RAM Declivity of the CF-29 Mk5? This would be the long screw that is normally hidden by the RAM hatch cover.
Like a moron, I somehow managed to lose it, and will need to go to the Hardware store in the morning for a replacement.
-
On the MK3 they are all 8 the same size, so unscrew another one and go to the store for a replacement
-
I have found it! The thing just wanted to stay hidden long enough to make me look stupid, and it that it has done a good job! But, thanks for trying to help!
Now it is time to go put some iodine on my foot! -
possible, i have not a screwdriver with me now to check it
-
For future reference it is: 3mm x 0.50 x 8mm Pan head.
Don't pigs have hoofs?
CAP -
Hoofs? Well it is a long, ugly, unnatural story, I would not want to bore you with it. -
As someone who has a cat who gets into everything. Go to Walmart, get some small partitioned tackle box inserts with hinged covers. Put your parts into the little bins as you take them out, whenever you leave for any reason, close and latch the box. End of lost screws and trying to sort them out.
CAP -
Azrial, you needs a good screw? I can ship you some...
-
Let me see if the babe at the local hardware store can hook me up first before I am reduced to taking candy from a strange man on the Internet!
Seriously, thanks! -
Azrial, just ask around... I've shipped screws to lots of people... What is your name anyways?
-
Please note, I never claimed that "I" was not a strange man!
Here is the pic of the missing screws and other anomalies (to me...) of my CF-29!
Plus: A big thanks to h3lpmedic for the super nice backplate to replace my old cracked one!
-
Good question I was wondering about the same ones. The two with what look like springs in them and the little hole in the mem cover.
-
I don't know why that hole is there... Don't worry about it... the water seal IS NOT compromised... PM sent back in reply... I have those two missing screws for you... No, their is NO plug for those two holes with the springs in them
-
I know...it's a heat exhaust for the memory bay. HaHa
-
No the springs are for mating to docking stations.
... and with your saying that you had the backplate replaced, it does look like your Toughbook was used in a dock for some time based on the wear... and it's easy to crack that backplate door when you put the computer in the dock and snap the dock connector forward. -
When the cats were playing chase around my work area, they managed to knock the closed off my desk, and when it hit the floor it must have sprang open. Then I guess that their original game evolved into a a soccer match! -
The screw in the corner is the same as the other one; 3mm x 0.50 x 8mm.
the one next to the ram cover is kind of a pan head, not a counter sunk flathead; 2.5mm x 0.45 x 2mm.
I recommend the Plano tackle boxes because they have secure latches, Black Jack couldn't get one open and he has tried!
The little hole is for just what yours seems to have been used for, prying the cover off.

Nice looking back plate there! Glad you like it!

Across all marks of 29's, the bottom cab screws interchange, they do not change location, size, or anything. So if you have some spare units for parts, just grab it from there, The only screws that change are as follows
2 screws in pcmcia door, MK3 started with the black screws
2 screws that hold serial flap on, random difference in the top cabinet.
4-5 screws that hold the "T" bracket around the touchpad down(under palm rest sticker), is the same screws as what holds down the serial flap, so if the screws on the serial flap are the smaller dc flap style screw, it will be that screw there. HOWEVER, if the screw on the serial flap is about a door hinge screw, that will be the correct screw for the touch pad bracket. -

MMMMMM, Bacon!!!!!!!!!!
yummmmmmmmmmmm yuuuuuuuum!!!!!!! I can srsly eat 2 pound of bacon in one sitting... Oscar Meyer brand OF COARSE!!
-
Thick cut apple wood smoked, mouth is watering.
-
Thick cut smoked bacon from Benton's Country Hams, Madisonville, TN. While you are there (they do sell on the net), try the smoked sausage and of course, the country ham......Man, that is good eatin'.
-
This reminds me of one definition of a democracy being three wolves and a pig voting on what to have for dinner!
Perhaps this is the point where I should mention that I am more of a tough old boar, then a tasty piglet. -
That's why slow smokers were invented ;9
-
Bacon makes everything taste better.
Here in Tejas, there's a diner where they bread it & deep fry it. Sounds weird until you try it.

Of course, you can HEAR your arteries clogging with every bite... -
Freakin' A! I was at the local Piggly Wiggly in Edgerton, WI just a few minutes ago and 1lb of Oscar Meyer bacon costed me $4.99!!! WWTTFF??!?!?!
