I'm looking at the CF-U1 my department purchased, and it doesn't seem to work well with the Panasonic Arbitrator they also purchased a couple of years ago...
Are they completely incompatible? The department says they can get them to work through possible changes to the OS (Windows 7).

Anyone know of any police department that actually uses the U1 with the Arbitrator 360?
Anyone know if it's possible (and practical) to get the Arbitrator to work properly? Other officers say it slows down dramatically the second any other program is run (such as the other programs police need to operate to do their jobs.)

Now, I'm not a copper so I'm just vaguely familiar with the Arbitrator. But my sister in law used U1's at work until they bought CF-H1's. Anyway, I can tell you that everything went to hell in a handbasket once they upgraded to Windows 7. The entire medical records database went down for two days until I got it sorted. (I kinda fixed it by accident.) Anyway, the slowdown is caused by a bug in Windows 7. SP1 adds a patch that should fix it, I believe. At least that's the answer I got from M$.

EDIT: We have one or two coppers here on the forums. They can probably help with your Arbitrator.

Interesting... they said that switching to Windows 7 actually sped it up, by the way, but still can't run basic police programs.

The U1 -- with Intel Atom Z520 1.33 GHz and 1024 mb ram -- does anyone know if it can even support the arbitrator software?
Is it just a mismatch? And why would my department spend so much (in the $7 million range) on a system if it didn't work?

What version or phase of Arbitrator 360 software is the dept using? Only the latest phase (7.1) supports Windows 7 from what I recall. I can look the documentation up on it later tonight when I am at work. There are minimum specs on the computers for use as well and I will find that.

I was correct in that Phase 7 (software version 2.6.13.25) is the first phase to officially support Windows 7 for any portion of the system. You will see the U1 does not meet the minimum operating environment specs. Frankly I can't see how any agency would put those computers in their police cars. Way too small. If they want small they should have gone with the CF19.

    Operating Environment for Phase 7.1:

A PC that meets the following operating environment is required for use of this application.

CPU: Intel Duo 1.66 GHz or more (for XP), Intel Core i3-350M 2.26 GHz or more (WIN 7) (recommended)

RAM: 512 MBor more (XP), 2GB or more (WIN7) (recommmended)

    Display: 1024x768 dot or more

Display Adapter: Supports DirectX hardware acceleration

    LAN: 1000BASE-T/100BASE-TX

OS: Windows XP Professional (SP 3 or later) 32 bit, Windows 7 Professional 32/64 bit

Add on: .NET Framework 3.5 SP 1, Windows Installer 3.1 (XP), Windows Installer 5.0(WIN 7), Adobe Reader X, Windows Media Player 11 (XP), Windows Media Player 12 (WIN 7)

The above is for the front end client which goes on the computer in the cruiser.

Yeah, it does. Its a lot faster with Windows 7 if that little bug is taken care of. But until then, they are slow as hell. The one I fixed couldn't have two Word documents open simultaneously without nearly freezing on me.

The last time I used that machine I ran four firefox tabs, spotify, uTorrent, a disk defrag on an external drive and watched a movie. All at the same time. No slowdowns, no lag, no freezing.

I am installing Win7 on one of my U1's this week so I will report the results
    here when it's done.

Wanted to run Win7 to fully utilize the SSD which is 64gb now btw :)

Anyone know if they released a U1 Mk II before releasing the Ultra?
Someone told me they were looking at what he was assured was a U1 purchased in January or February 2010, but the specs had an Atom Z530 1.66 GHz and 2 gigs of ram which is only standard on the Ultra.

Is it possible to have a U1 with all the same specs as an Ultra in February 2010?
(All reports I've seen show the Ultra was released in Sept. 2010)
    Anyone know for sure?
