I just finished reading some old threads here regarding the max RAM that will work on the CF-30 Mk3 being 8GB. I know that the Intel GM965 chipset in the CF-30 Mk2 will support more then 4GB, yet I also know that the BIOS may not support the memory remapping required to use all of it.

So now I have to know, will my Mk2 work with more. I have found 200pin DDR2 PC2-5300 RAM in two 4GB sticks, but has anyone here already done it on the Mk2?

I am sorry, this stuff is like hanging a red cape out in front of me!

I am very curious also, but, I don't have the funds to invest in 4gb sticks for an experiment...Now if someone gave me 2 sticks, I would gladly try them out and report back...Might even load a 64 bit OS on a spare drive to try.
Anyone who wants to send me the 8gb of ram, send my a PM for the address :D

I have seen a screen shot of a cf 30 or a 19 mk2 with 8 gb of ram somewhere. Also look at the 74 mk3 and 52 models with the same chipset.

It's too late, wyrm73 and ADOR provoked me over at Toughbook Talk and I have pulled the trigger and intend to find out.

    Now to work some overtime...

are your 4GB sticks double-sided (low-density), i.e. memory chips on both sides of the stick ?
if they're not double-sided (i.e. single sided, high-density), then I don't think it will have much chance of working.
the kit I've used on the mk3 was double-sided, so that should be your best bet also, especially on the mk2, as it is an older chipset.

hold the presses! MK3 can have 8 gigs? any recommendations on brand? not that my 32 bit installation would use it, but I might install 64 bit windows if I ever have time and am bored silly.

I am not sure that I am following your post. You seem to be advocating for low-density, which is what I went with. I ordered (2X4GB) of SODIMM 667MHz 200-Pin PC2-5300 DDR2 1.8V LOW DENSITY 16 CHIP, Notebook memory modules.

    Thanks for the feedback!

Low density ram has historically been more compatible in all makes of computers. Low density ram always costs more. Usually quite a bit more. When in doubt or experimenting, Always go with low density.

Well when I took a glace at the Intel GM965 Specs sheet I conjectured that low density was my best bet, but we will know soon....

I appreciate any and all input I receive, including the ones where "they said that it couldn't be done..."

Please educate me...what specs indicated that low density was the correct choice?

If I am right you were told that 2GB would not work in a CF-29 but we all know how that went

    you're welcome ;)
I've edited my post anyway, but you've already got my point.

look here, it's in the first pic.
the credit for choosing that particular model/brand goes to user BaRRmaley, who told me some time ago what he had used for his 8GB 19mk3.:hi2:
I had a bit of a saga when buying those sticks from the bay, as 2 sticks were DOA and one gave memtest86 errors. i got a refund, though.

you can use any good brand, as long as you go by the specs recommended in this thread.

    The search Ninja strikes again...................

    excerpt from thread

    My 2x4GB is finally here
    Elpida 4GB 2Rx8 PC2-6400S-666
I've already installed one of them, so now I have 2GB + 4GB and it works fine under 64-bit OS.
Will upgrade internal 2GB to second 4GB module soon, but it seems, while 4GB is not enough, 6GB is.enough.

I have been searching for hours for what I referenced! I think it was in the Intel 965 Family Data Sheet, but I can't find exactly what I saw now. The System Memory Support is listed in section 1.1.2.

Anyway as I understood it the PM965 chipset with the latest update would recognize 4GB of Low density RAM(128Meg X 8 Modules). and the datasheet said that all features of the PM965 were supported by the GM965, unless listed otherwise.

when I have those moments, I use browser history. If I know the approximate time and correct date, I can find the bread crumbs..
