I have searched and havent found this specific answer. I have 256 on board and threw in a 512 stick from an older computer for 768. im gonna be trading off my desktop computers and if i can get more RAM in here ill trade off this 512 stick as well.

    To clarify

You will need to purchase either

    1GB PC-2700 DDR 200-Pin SODIMM Laptop Memory
    or
    1GB PC-3200 DDR 200-Pin SODIMM Laptop Memory

    Note: this is standard DDR
    DDR2 is not compatable

It does not depend on the HDD size.

The biggest chip you can use in a CF-29, is 1gb except for rare cases, he has 256mb onboard, +1gb, that is 1280mb. Most CF-29 wont see any chips bigger than 1gb.

So the Panasonic website is wrong?

Did I say you could have more than 1Gb?

    Slight clarification needed here:

The CF-29 Mk4 and Mk5 Models with base 256MB RAM have been proven to be compatible with 2GB DDR2 RAM modules (at least those from Crucial Technologies).

I haven't seen anyone try the 2GB DDR upgrade on a 256MB Mk1, 2 or 3 yet, so I cannot say " Yes" or "No" on these Models.

If someone sends me a 2gb ddr module, I will be generous and try it out in my Mk2 256gb for you all. I am willing to suffer through the trouble for the better good of the community. :D  :D

I think it was Rob that did, sorry, no joy for Mark 1-3 256MB Momboard owners.

It is a limitation of the Intel 855GM chipset used on the Mark1-3, which only supports 64MB UMA. The Intel 915GMS used in the Mark 4 & 5 will support up to 128MB UMA.

Sooooo... The Mark 4&5 with only 256MB onboard RAM will support a 2GB Stick of DDR2 RAM for a total of 2.25GB.

No other Toughbook reported so far will exceed 1.5GB except those rare models of the Mark 4&5 with with 1GB of on board RAM, and they 1 support 1GB of DDR2 for a total of 2GB, minus UMA.

It is all documented, in detail, if you click the 2.25GB link in my sig.

Hey AZ, does anybody know how truly rare these 256 mb on board ram units are on the mk4 and mk5's?..........Driller............just re-read and I think you were referring to the S model cf-29's with the 1 gb onboard ram, just the same , how common were the 256mb onboard ram units?

For the mark 1 and 2, the 256 onboard is pretty standard, mark 3 is about half/half 256/512, and a vew mark 4/5 have 256mb on board, not alot but I would say probably 15-20%

My Mk5 CF-29 (Model Number below) is one of those 256MB Base RAM Models, selected specifically because of the RAM, Emissive Backlit Keyboard, dual pass-through connectors and HSDPA WWAN. It has the 2GB RAM upgrade installed.

Some day in the future I plan on converting it to a XGA Touch Screen; then it will be "perfect." ;)

I would venture a guess that the Mk4 and Mk5 Models with the 1GB Base RAM are the least common Model CF-29s found.
