Take a look at Ohlip's post on the subject in the recent CF-18 ram thread.

Are you talking about config.toughbook.com? That only shows it came with up to 256mb. Is there another good site?

    Thanks!!

That is 256 BASE RAM I believe.... They don't post what it is capable of holding... Just the base RAM.

On an side note... MOST of the CF-28s state that they are limited to 512MB of RAM.... et some work well with up to 768MB of RAM.... Experiment!

128mb or 256mb in the extra slot, I think for a max 384mb or 512mb total
I have owned a few, but Teo would probably know better

Snippet from my MK4 manual (not sure if it's the same for a MK3):

As Ohlip and I believe Alex have pointed out, see the post I referenced above, some of the manuals were written before 1gig ram modules were available and that thread includes posts from several users whose machines are seeing significantly more ram than the manual says they can use. Perhaps the 512 sticks work in the CF-28s for the same reason.

The 34 MK3 has 1 slot and no onboard RAM and is limited to 256MB or at least I have not been able to find a 512MB sodimm that works. When I tried several 512MB sodimms the laptop would only recognize half of it (256MB).

You refreshed my memory on this now
I sold my last mk-3 last summer and I remember that I was confused that the 256 add-on chip only shows up as 256 total
I was thinking at the time that it was seeing only 1/2 of the 256 chip
That explains the total as 256 only, as there is no onboard on this model

Just an oberservation based on reading this entire thread... the OP posted about an M34, not a CF-18...

    Rob,
True enough, but the CF-M34 manual might be like the CF-28 and CF-18 manuals in its listing of max ram. As Nixon's White House used to refer to their statements of the previous day, the ram limits may be "no longer operative".

The CF-M34N indeed only has 256MB installed in a single SODIMM, none permanently soldered on.

I'll try to find a 512MB pc100 stick and try it out!!

Don't waste your time and money to do that as T-2-go said It will only recognize 256Mb even if you install 512Mb. ask me why and how I know that?
