Mc7750 = gobi 4000 mc5725 <> gobi 1000 ?

I am working on a handful of Panasonic products.

The newest is the FZ-G1 Toughpad that uses the MC7750 aka the GOBI 4000.
You can find clear references saying one is equal to the other, and they use the same drivers.


I also have a ton of CF-19 Toughbooks currently MK1, MK2, and MK3
On the MK1 and MK2 I used this driver:

I do not know why but I had to get it from Verizon and not from Panasonics driver site (and every laptop I have worked with that came back from repair never had the WWAN drivers installed

On the MK3 however the same driver does not seem to work even though as far as I can tell its the same WWAN card.

After looking at tons of posts from this site in the archives because many people have had issues with Panasonic drivers (Espeically WWAN/GPS) I finally found two that work. Somebody had posted a link to their personal drop box that had the GOBI 1000 drivers and I happened to find burried deep in a folder some drivers from the MCA installer:

I wonder why these GOBI 1000 drivers worked but the MC5725 drivers did not? Are they not the same card?

And let me tell you of all my years I have never seen products so poorly supported when it comes to drivers. That MCA software does not install for me I manually found the drivers. The MK2 does not have bluetooth drivers on the download page, the FZ-G1 does not have GPS working out of the box with a factory restore disk/image. Several drivers require you to manually update a unknown device from the device manager instead of having an installer.

Just crazy! Next buy cycle when it comes time to get new equipment I'll be leading the charge to get another brand. We have had good luck with Getac and its cheaper to boot.

Is it so difficult to check?
There is Gobi1000 in MK3, and of course Gobi1000 is not MC5725.
Does Cisco equipment work out of the box?

The question is: Is the MC5725 the "Rebranded" GOBI 1000 as according to the information I found

It says GOBI 1000 = Sierra MCXXX but it does not list the specific model #

Also the MC5725 are working without sim cards whilt the MK3 is asking me to install the SIM.

P.S. Yes all Cisco equipment works out of the box, just to enable the advanced features you need to configure it. But Cisco has great documentation and great hareware and the best command driven system ever. Non of the poorly supported junk Panasonic is tossing out

 

Gobi 1000 = Qualcomm HS-USB Modem 250D (info from my device manager)
Maybe it's MCxxxx too, but it's not MC5725 for sure.
MC5725 is CDMA only modem. Yes, it doesn't need SIM card and has to be programmed.
Gobi 1000 doesn't need SIM card too (and will not ask for), if you want to use CDMA. But you have to provide SIM card for GSM. It's very convenient if you have to switch between CDMA and GSM frequently - only GSM SIM card is installed, while CDMA number and data settings are programmed.

But bluetooth drivers (Toshiba/Panasonic or MS) are awful, no questions. Right now I'm using Intel 7260 with bluetooth, and, while it's Wi-Fi is extremely slow, bluetooth functions work fully. Even no problems with my BT headset.

 

Alright so I just need to figure out why its making it mandatory for the SIM card.

I went back to my image before I had WWAN drivers installed and this time the CSA installer worked, pushed the drivers out and now its detected as a GOBI 1000 in VZAccess Manager and connecting.

It was giving me some cryptic error before with both Verizon software and the Panasonic software asking me to install/insert a SIM for the device to function.

Verizon was also asking if I wanted to switch WWAN modes, but if I chose "yes" it would fail.

Time to rip these drivers and save it on 80 network locations so that they can never be lost.

 

I don't use Verizon or Panasonic software, just standard Win8 "connection manager". It looks like this (sorry for the mix of russian and romanian languages )

Windows XP

These are old CF19's being replaced with the FZ-G1 MK2 soon but until that time I need to keep a working machine on each ambulance.

I have had more than my share of issues on the FZ-G1 as well

As I mentioned GPS is not working out of the box (Missing COM Ports Installing Ports Manually to fix)
The hotkey software won't open any software except the default dashboard (Using hotkey combo and assigning a hotkey to a shortcut as a fix)
No Toshiba BT stack with this product like all prior Panasonic products and the Heartmonitor wont work with MS BT Stack (Forced Toshiba to fix)
On Screen Keyboard not popping up for Cisco VPN before login (This could be Win8 issue not a Panasonic Issue, Using Disability OSK feature as a fix)

In my 15+ Years of working on computers I have never seen any manufacturer with a product that had so many issues especially with driver supply and installation.

My first service call when I was thrown into this projuct to support Fire Rescue and they handed me a non working FZ-G1 the Panasonic rep was bashing the product saying how bad the driver install is, how bad the product is, and that they have terrible Win 8.1 support

On that note being able to pick the 4G connection as a Wireless network is nice on Win 8.1 this is how we connect to the VPN before login as per HIPPA laws.

P.S. Dont even let me start on the CF-31 issue where the NDIS mode would not work for the WWAN card when it installed with the default WMB Driver and I had to manually edit the config file so that it installed the LAN driver. I think I found that in the Verizon form somewhere.
