I seen a signature that showed a media bay battery is there one? Or is this something I'll have to make?
Besides that, I'd like to say thanks for a great forum, I was able to get my cf-28 up and running in no time with all the links and great info on this forum.
Again thanks

cctaco.... Welcome to the forum. Yes... You can by a media bay battery for your CF-28. You should do a search because this has been covered and, while it will work on all models, it works correctly only on a few.
I'll explain a little... All 28s will be able to use the extra power. However... On most models your laptop will sense that it is about to lose power and will want you to shut down. It sees both batteries... But only one at a time. If you then eject the battery... You 28 will then see the main battery and use that. All CF-29s will work with the media bay battery and it is a great upgrade to have for both the 28 & 29 models.
Good luck and glad the folks here could help out! -
Right again Ranger Rick!
The media bay battery only works correctly in the MK2(CF-28Pxxxxx) and the MK3(CF-28Sxxxxxx). It will power the MK1(CF-28Mxxxxxx) but the computer will not automatically switch to the main battery when the MB battery dies, it will shut off. The info in the parenthesis is for cctaco, I presume you know the CF-28 marks by now.

Just be patient - I waited for months to find one on ebay then after I got it a whole bunch showed up for a while, just keep looking they will pop up - I paid around $80-100 for them. Only draw back is some are very old even though they are new, I have been through 3 or 4 of them and had one that is crap, wont hold a charge. Need to step up and put some new cells in it but for another rainy day - good luck
Model number for the battery is CF-VZSU25 -
Here is one active now - grab it while you can !!!!!!!!!!!

I just got one myself.I Have noticed that when I use it on my CF-28P that it runs off the Media battery then shouts off the lab top. Did I miss something? I did just update the BIOS , but it still dose the same thing.

I'd have assumed that the system will run off either (or both) and keep going providing one or both has enough charge. With the mains charger plugged in, the battery management software definitely shows both battery icons and indicates that one is present and one isn't, so it only charges the one battery.

You may want to re-read this thread for the answer... -
Well I didn't get the used one on ebay, I thought that a new which I was hoping would have been a better way to go than used? (we'll see). I picked a new one up for $125. My toughbook, I currently am using is a cf-28STJG8DMBKB.
Which was advertised as a pent III and with touch screen. So, I bid on it and won, got it about 10 days, later. Had windows 2000 on it, ran it for about 10 minutes and the hard drive failed. Got a new drive for it, cheap $50 235 gig drive. Bought a cd / dvd drive for it $70.00. Loaded xp pro on it, works great. Then got excited, that it has a very nice backlit keyboard, and wireless a/b in it. Main battery holds a good charge and seems to work about 1.25 hours. Got lucky on this one didn't really get the specs on it.
