Well that sucks... that leaves Delorme as the sole company providing PC-based GPS mapping (I think...) They have great maps but their interface seems to be designed by engineers.

It's not the end of the world, the maps will be useful for the next decade or so at least. Bing maps my axx. Get used to it, in our "connected" world they don't want you to be able to function without buying something, in this case data. You have noticed ,I suspect, that M$ and Adobe and others are rapidly moving their products off the shelves and onto the cloud. Somehow I don't see this as designed to protect the consumer. Mrs. Dogfish actually saw a "Bing Maps" photo car in the wild the other day.

Good to know there is another company out there. I have a wi-fi hotspot available on my phone so using the ublox software with Google maps activated has been working for me.

One of the hand's down best was packaged with the Garmin GPS18 in the early 2000's Garmin nRoute. If you can still find a copy and you use a Garmin elsewhere you can still upload new maps to it.

I know there is a way to strip out google maps for offline use as well.
