O.K. this is a good thing.

I downloaded the .iso, burnt to DVD and installed to a 160 GB drive...Panasonic OEM caddy.

Made the tweaks on a CF-29MK4 LTQGZBM. When complete I today switched that caddy and drive between Mark 1 through 4, only needing to set the wireless address on two of them. Wireless cards were 2100, 2200 and 2915. 3945 is in the Mint package also...didn't have one to try. No MK 5 here so did not try that but I know it will work.

For touchscreen there is a tweak and also for the touchpad. First though install updates. 160+-

Watch and use the capital X!

    Touchscreen:
    For the touchpad:
I like to bump the Whisker Menu Icon with my thumb and open the file I want again with a thumb bump. Sooo.....Right click the bottom panel, select [Panel][Panel Preferences] and tune the row size to suit. I use 40 giving a scant half inch panel with larger icons.

We can discuss application keyboard shortcuts at a later date.

Somebody try this and tell me if there is a problem.

I like that I can put the caddy in any Toughbook (CF-29) and it will work and work well. Thanks to MINT developers for a nice OS.

Units tested CTKGZDMBKB, ETKGZBM-B, HTM50BM (bad TS panel), LTQGZBM. Numbers are from the bottom case. Bios numbers drop the letters after M.

    Jeff

EDIT: FOR NOW I THINK I GOT LUCKY GETTING MINT 15 LOADED. STILL TESTING. MK 1 REPORTED PAE ISSUE ON A INSTALL ATTEMPT.
WHAT I THINK>>>THE 29MK4 "TOOK IT" THEN WHEN LOADED AND UPDATED IT RAN IN THE LESSER MARKS.
THE FIX RIGHT NOW IS MINT 13 XFCE (PRE PAE?) MORE AS I FIND IT OUT.
    I APOLOGIZE FOR ANY CONFUSION.

Yay! You know who to call. Professor TBurd may not be here...time to return to the roost or something...but I can field the simpler inquiries.

Jeff- Reporting back after trying this on three CF-19's tonight- MK 1-2-3 XFCE using a stock Panasonic Hitachi 320 GB HDD and Caddy. Units CF-19CHBAXBM, CF-19F6LAXCM, CF-19KDRAG6M. I downloaded the Mint ISO: Linux Mint 15 "Olivia" - Xfce (32-bit) - Linux Mint via my CF-C1, and then used a program called "unebutin": UNetbootin - Homepage and Downloads to burn the iso onto a usb stick. Booted up the MK2 first and installed, and then tried the HDD in the MK I & MK 3. Touch with stylus worked perfect in MK2 & MK3, was off by an inch in the MK1. Booted up no problem and found wireless network immediately. Was surfing with Chromium in no time at all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    What was that &amp again?

Thanks Cleve for steering me this way.

I like Ubuntu 12.04 and the Mate desktop but this one is as good or better and an easier set-up.

Disregard the touchpad tweak for units other than cf-29 FOR NOW. Accidental cap lock but I will leave for emphasis.

FIRE dept. fund raiser and etc. tomorrow....etc=dealing with livestock water. Springs are drying up.

I will check in at night.

    Jeff....needs to teach that tapatalk what &amp is...or maybe it's me:thumbsup:

TOO funny Jeff, it's either Tapatalk and/or telephone doing it when I type the font above the number 7, I call it "and".I'll have to try installing it directly to the MK1 and see if the calibration is off on the screen. Right on for the Mk2 and MK3

Xfce says my cpu does not support PAE. Unit is a CF-29HTLGRBM. On the Mint site, users who have cpu's that do not support PAE are advised to use Mint 13 Maya LTS. Bummer. :(

The ISO I downloaded was 'linuxmint-15-xfce-dvd-32bit.iso'. Used the same ISO on a usb stick for an install on a Compaq Mini 110 netbook a couple weeks ago.

    Any ideas? Thanks.

Thank you Cleve. I don't know why I didn't think of that, getting old may be the problem.

Downloaded, installed, updated and went through Jeff's instructions for the TS. All is good. I am on the CF-29 Mk3 right now.

Big thanks to both Cleve and Jeff.

So the old CF-29HTL is much more responsive running Mint 13 Xfce than XP. Calibration is spot on, surprising as the utility only has 4 points.

I can not figure how to right click w/the stylus. Does this have to be set from a terminal?

    Thanks.

Glad to hear you had success. I just followed Jeff's instructions on a MK1 CF-19 and now the Touchscreen is also "spot-on". Hopefully someone will have insight into "right clicking" and/or a short cut. I did NOT have to calibrate the Touchscreens on the MK2 Digitizer nor the MK3 Multitouch, just installing Xfce & up-dating took care of everything. This is a boon for people having trouble obtaining Factory Restore Disks for their CF-29's & CF-19 units. Cheers!!

I'm going through the Mint XFCE forum, seeing if I can find something. I will post the results if I find anything.

I found this thread on the Mint forum:

Linux Mint Forums • View topic - Right-Click on Touchscreen

It recomends installing a program called Easystroke Gesture recognition:

    https://apps.ubuntu.com/cat/applications/precise/easystroke/

I have not been able to get a right-click for stylus setup, but found this in the doc:

I think the program will work better on digitizer systems, but will keeplaying with it on the CF-29.

Maybe this will work for you Cleve.

Jeff, here's the link for the Whisker Menu you asked about:
Linux Mint Forums • View topic - Super Key open whisker menu ?

    And another one also: http://www.ubuntuupdates.org/package/mint_import/olivia/import/base/xfce4-whiskermenu-plugin

Re: Super Key open whisker menu ?
Postby CaptainMark on Tue Jul 16, 2013 2:34 pm

Well the whisker menu is a third party app not made by Mint, I found the developer Graeme Gott on Github and asked him and this is what he said

    Hi,

I'm pleased that you like the menu! Unfortunately, the currently
released stable version can not be opened by a keyboard shortcut.
However, the development version can, and I plan to make a stable
release (version 1.1) in a week or so that can as well.

I'm not sure when Mint will update the menu, because I'm not involved
with their development, but I have heard that my PPA works with Mint. If
they don't update it you can get the latest stable version from here:
    https://launchpad.net/~gottcode/+archive/gcppa.

    Cheers,
    Graeme Gott
Once version 1.1 goes stable I will ask the Mint devs if they will update the repos, if not there is still a way round it at least
