I have used several Mint 17 installs. Presently running it on CF-30 MK1 to MK3 (LTS) and CF-53 (RC). (32 and 64 bit) Mostly SSD (Intel).

The RC versions I had expected some bugs...but only one showed up. This has carried over to the Mint 17 LTS Cinnamon.

I'm sorry but I don't use anything except Toughbooks...what's the point? So the bug affects me a little.

The bug is screen flicker. Two things stop it.

    Units affected are CF-30 MK1 and CF-30MK3. CF-30 MK2 and CF-53 are not affected.

I can't find what's going on in dmesg. Though this shows up
    Code:
     video LNXVIDEO:00: Restoring backlight state
Other than that I'm looking forward to very little change until 2019. (LTS yes?)

We have had Calibration nailed since Ubuntu 10.10...or the advent of xinput-calibrator. What a nice device.

I have noticed a similar problem on my Ubuntu x64 install, on version 13.10, when coming out of hibernation half the screen stays dark sometimes and it is difficult to wake up. I do not know if the problems are related or not, but as you know, I have a Mark2.

    What's a external monitor?

Thinking logically rofl I think the OS may be looking for the external monitor then switching back over and over. By pointing bios at the lcd the loop is disabled. Make sense? rofl

As to why the only ACPI event after standby is backlight, I've seen that elsewhere with some off brand computer. :D IOW backlight is doing something or not.

Back in 10.10 time I had ACPI problems with the MK2....."the Intel driver is broken as far as Linux is concerned" is a quote I remember.

I LIKE your post Shawn...the first is referring to me, the second has some code I need to investigate. My LIKE is for the second one.

I posted here as a lot of the Linux "community" watches this forum. More on this topic as we battered our way into it is found at Toughbooktalk Linux Department.

Meanwhile Mint 17 LTS is fine and now running on a CF-29MK5 (little slow) simultaneous display no flicker. Using
    Code:
    xset m 8 1
each boot for the mouse (touchpad). Getting ready to write a script for that to load at boot. I'll do that when I install it on my SSD. This slow mouse is common to most 'ix distrubutions for CF-30MK1 and the 29's.
There is another mouse tweak found in the archives here. WTH here it is:
    Code:
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/psmouse.conf ## use nano editor if you want
    Cut and paste
    Code:
    options psmouse resolution=400 #and save
. On reboot system will find and use the /etc file.

    The search continues....erractically.

For new users stuff after the # is not read by the systems. Just a way of making notes.

    J'd...windy today...me :D

If this was one unit I would think I had a problem.
    CF-30 MK1 =flicker
    CF-30 MK2 = OK
    CF-30 MK3 (5 ea) =flicker
    CF-52G = flicker
    CF-19 MK1 seem ok.
I don't know how to eliminate the external monitor from /etc/modprobe.d or whatever but somebody does. :D I can set the bios to LCD only but would prefer to mod the program. Mint 17 Cinammon, Mate, and XFCE.
I might post the /var/log/xorg.log after chore time.....Shows the action after suspend-restart.

    Thanks,

    J'd

Any of you 'ix folks have an idea? One of these has to leave here tomorrow. Anybody?

Maybe it's your eyes that are flickering? :D

rcmint17 : display flickers when enabling sli

    Postby grml4d on Thu May 29, 2014 3:37 pm
rcmint17 looks so cool and i am having some mouse trouble with steamos and a mod i update for latest hl engine , i installed it on a drive .
so i did the updates and installed the recommended nvidia driver.at the same time i edited the /etc/X11/xorg.conf using the nvidia-xconfig with --multigpu and sli .
i have 3 gtx570 , with win8.1 i have the sli 3 way enabled , with linux i have the display flickering [flashing] during few seconds then it stops , with others apps that uses the screens like steam download page then the flickerings does not stop .
i tried the other nvidia driver and it does the same .
after editing the conf file to remove the multigpu and sli options , screen is no more flickering at any time .

    may help....
