Anyone ever see Mk3 or later CF18's appear for sale? All I've come across is Mk 2's (which is what I have now). WHat sort of pricing do the later CF18's tend to go for (US$ is fine as that'd be the biggest market for them)?

Second part of this is that since CF19's sell for such massive prices (even used), what benefits do the later CF18's bring which are actually tangible improvements keeping in mind that fully-rugged nature of the systems? One I can think of is more RAM capacity. What else?

    Regards,

    Craig.

Currently there is a decent selection of Mark 3, 4, and 5 Panasonic Toughbook CF-18 units available online; pricing generally varies depending upon condition and where the product is purchased (eBay, Panasonic Preferred Partner, Panasonic Toughbook remarketer, etc). There is not only one specific change on the later CF-18 models as it varies by the full configuration, which would denote the RAM, hard-drive, screen size and type, chipset, etc.

From what I know there are no "major" upgrades between the marks. The only difference is minor engineering changes and upgraded spec, i.e CPU, chipsets, HDD size.

    Ummm... yeah.

As long as you don't consider the jump from DDR to DDR2 a major jump, or the jump frome IDE to SATA a major jump, or the jump from P4 to Centrino or Dual-Core a major jump, I suppose you could say that....

Well, I didn't mention this before, figuring others knew about this, but you can get a:
    Toughbook 1.2GHz, 60GB HD, 10.4" Touch Screen, Win XP - Panasonic CF-18KHHZXBM
    from GainSaver for $539.
    Address: http://www.gainsaver.com/catalog/Detail.aspx?&Keyword=cf-18&PageIndex=0&PageMax=40&cICode=121640

You can add up to a three year warranty to is as well as a few other goodies. I already odered one and I will let you all know who it goes if you want! That price includes the 10% off that they mention. I'm going to be adding a third to my Toughbook portfolio, so PLEASE don't buy up ALL of them!! ;)

BTW I am working with them to negotiate a better price, so if you can wait a few days to a week, I'll let you know. The order will be for local professional use, but I can add anyone who is interested to the order. Either PM me or email me directly at NKrebs AT StrathamFire DOT org The more we can get interested the better the price. If you are a reseller, I'm OK with it, just give me an idea of how many you *might* be interested in.

    Beau,

Good link! That is a decent price if it turns out to be in good condition! Please keep us posted! Personally I wouldn't fool with the warranty... WE are your warranty! I also wouldn't add stuff to it since you can get it for a better price elsewhere.
