Sorry, can't get the link to work so I took some pics. Also, the internal document shows limited stock of the A1 in Jan 12, and the 7" coming in Fall 2012.

    Thanks for posting these!

    Looking at the feature lists:
"Root Protection: Prevents “jailbreaking” which keeps hackers from modifying the internals of the OS."
Hooray... :( There goes my interest in these - unless this can be circumvented (officially or through some exploit). Many useful Android applications require root access.

Why the hell would they lock the os? The entire bloody point of android is the fact that in can be modified.

Hardly what I would consider to be a feature. I'm sure that those deploying a large number of these in a secure location will be glad that every idiot who gets one won't be able to nuke & pave Company Hardware with an OS they downloaded from some warez site, then try to connect to their secure network with a machine that may have Ifni knows what Trojans or Bot-Net subsystems preinstalled as a result.

This is what IT has come to; we now not only have to protect ourselves from stupid people, we have to protect them from their own stupidity.

The "Root Protection" takes the form of a security processor that amongst other things:
    - Checks the boot code for tampering, preventing the device from being jailbroken.
    - Encrypts the data in the disk, so all data written is encrypted and Android / normal processor cores are unaware of the ongoing encryption.
    - Can handle the VPN as well, to separate the handling of the VPN from normal processing tasks.

Yes, Android is open. And yes, any changes Panasonic make to the Android OS should be released back into the public domain under the licensing terms. BUT, Panasonic is making a business tablet - ie. one that needs to be secure to handle sensitive data in todays world. One that your employer does not want you installing Angry Birds on to, or skimming data off.

as nice as they are... I'd rather spend about 1/4th of what they want for them and get a TEGRA 3 QUAD CORE tablet... and an OTTERBOX...

The 10" looks like a nice unit - if it was in the market now. All it seems to offer over competitors is ruggedness - functionally it's a "me-too". As for the 7" in 3rd quarter 2012 - Apple will be marketing it's iPad 4 by then ;)
