So in an effort to make my 600MHz toughbook into an 800MHz one, I've found many problems along the way.

I've finally got it all together.

Zero video. That's the primary result. I'm thinking that if it's possible to get the video cable though, it might work.. But for now it's going back to a 600MHz complete book.

So in my opinion, there is no "reasonable" way to swap an 800MHz board into a 600.

You'll need the whole upper half (And unless you want to modify stuff, you'll need the lower half too if you want the corner pieces to fit).
You'll need everything that goes into the upper half too.

You'll need the video cable out of an 800 (If not more).

On the plus side, it was an experience :D

If you can just get your mind together
    Then come across to me
We'll hold hands an' then we'll watch the sun rise from the bottom of the sea
    But first

    Are You Experienced?
Ah! Have you ever been experienced?
    Well, I have

    I know, I know
    You'll probably scream n' cry
That your little world won't let go
But who in your measly little world are trying to prove that
You're made out of gold and -a can't be sold

    So-er, Are You Experienced?
Ah! Have you ever been experienced?
    Well, I have

Ah, let me prove it to you
I think they're calling our names
Maybe now you can't hear them, but you will
If you just take hold of my hand

    Ah! But Are You Experienced?
    Have you ever been experienced?

    Not necessarily stoned, but beautiful

    Experience is good! :D

    (I just couldn't resist:eek: )

The plus side is that this 600 is going to be the most badass 600 that ever lived :D The negative is that... well, damn, the 600's aren't that badass :D

At least I got my new green-tab batteries for all of them.

So, essentially, you've built an 800 with a 600 LCD on it, right?

The cable that has two connectors on the motherboard, then goes up to the back of the LCD panel. Just a theory, but I think it might do the job on a swap.

Don't get me wrong Mr. Toughbook, I really-really do like your new animated avatar, but it just seems a tiny bit less dignified than a notebook computer with a muddy tire track across it....

    Just sayin'.... :D

alright let me back up a little. you have an 800 mobo in a 600 case. you want to use the 600 LCD with the 800 mobo (right?) My experience has been that the 600 LCDs work fine on the 800 mobo, you just have to loosen up the harness to reverse the position of the two connectors. am i not following the problem that you're having?

I tried that, but I got no video. Perhaps I missed something though...

Yup! But he said he has plenty more, so I hope I didn't take them all.

I dunno... I REALLY liked your stick figure avatar, TB... (YOU know that) ;) but this one seems so... ummm... generic. I almost expect to see Ray Wise in the last panel offering me a killer deal on a used laptop... (Trade-ins welcome, of course)

I was doing some work on my TB project tonight and swapped the a 600mhz touch screen into my 800mhz. no problem. the video cables are the same, just the cable that is longer in the 600 opposite that of the 800 the wiring its self is the same. I was able to use the touch screen with both the original 600 cable on my 800mhz machine as well as the touch screen after i swapped cables. The problem that I ran into was that the cables, particularly the one that connect to the screen itself are very sensitive and tend to fall out of place easily with too much pulling on the harness and then...no video...or in my case a bright orange screen  ....oh well now i have a 800mhz touch screen and a PCMCIA cover! plus various spare parts. :D not bad for a 76 buck laptop on ebay.

Yes - exactly as Modly said - the 600 to 800 monitor is OK - just need to loosen up the slack so you can switch around the two connectors - Panasonic thought it would be funny I guess.

Also as a side note for the 1G unit. The photo sensor and the extra little board required for the full stroke backlit keyboard can be transplanted from the 800 to the 1,000 gig. I really like that style keyboard so I took the parts from my 800 when I moved up and works great. Just an FYI -

    - Give TB a break on his new avatar - he has an image to uphold - dignified I would say !!!!

Actually, I liked that one A LOT. TB offered to let me have it, but flippin' Notebonk Forum wouldn't let lowly little dwagon-boi install a aminated avatar... :mad2:

    :tongue :pTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTHHHH!!!

But... I REALLY think of all his avatars, the original with the TB under a mudbuggy tire track was the most representative of HIS attitude... LOL:laugh:
