I dont know if this is allowed, but i enjoy music. i also enjoy toughbooks.

I was wondering what music toughbook users listen to.

This topic did not exist until today.

I am a toughbook addict. CF-27, my 1st one, yep.
    CF-28,CF-29,CF-M34,CF-18 and even the CF-71

anyhow i listen to a lot of difrent music
    sometimes hardcore music, sometimes mellow,
from A - from anararchy to Z - to frank Zappa.

a videoclip from a nice german band . Das Ich.. i like it.

DAS ICH destillat (original video - egodram edition) - YouTube

I do NOT know if this topic is allowed on this toughbook forum, but i also like music.

Music is my life. Toughbooks extend my life.

Everything from Hank Williams Sr, Jr, and III to 2 Live Crew to Slayer. And lots in between. Can't forget about Robert Earl Keen, and and Pantera. Momma was a little country and Dad was a little rock and roll. They made a HELLBILLY!! I like it all. Music is the glue that holds the threads of sanity together.

I just woke up, and read all the responses. Cool.

I listen to a lot of music styles such as Punkrock, Metal, Blues, hardcore, techno, industrial, electro

disco, classical music (beethoven, chopin, wagner, Bach), a little bit Country, Rock and Roll, and many other styles.

I guess, that some of the toughbook users, are also working as Truck drivers. And when you are a Truck Driver, you are happy with the music on your radio or mp3 p[ayer.

    My favorite bands/artists are :

    - The Prodigy (Firestarter, Babys got a temper, etc)
    - Slayer
    - The Explolited
    - Beethovens 9th symphony (thanks to the movie A Clockwork Orange)
    - Ministry / Nine Inch Nails / Laibach
    - Marilyn Manson / The Clash / Elvis / Lady Gaga
    - and last but not least, the South-African group "Die Antwoord" ( they make modern hip-hop and are very well at doing so...)

I have over 16k+ songs in the collection... Most are classic rock. I did branch out in the early 2000's with Kid Rock and even enjoy early Eminem... Not bad for a 50 year old fart!

Country, to me, is worse than fingernails on the blackboard. I know other people enjoy it... But I just don't get it.

Jazz is cool... Reggae, Ska, Soul (I have James Brown too! Nothing like listening to The Godfather after a good Toughbook build!) Blues...

Electronica sends me into a tizzy... Like Kramer on Seinfeld...

Thanks for mentioning Lola. I never heard of her before. But I like her style of Chopin. I also used to play piano in the 80s and 90s. Once did a live performance in Eindhoven (holland) in public. A white piano. I played Beethoven and my own creations. My performance lasted about 1 hour. I had a huge punkrock mohawk (40 cm long). A lot of folks where watching and listening and in the end I got a standing ovation from the public.

The contradiction between Punkrock (harsh/chaotic music) and the fine Piano music I played was a major public attraction. I played only 3 times in public.

I mostly hang around classic rock /rhythm & blues; but I really just love music. From the old balladeers like Hank Sr AND Jr, to Baka Beyond and Avril Lavigne. I like classic jazz, though for the most part I feel progressive jazz is a bit contrived and deliberately esoteric. I like Moby and Billy Idol; Audioslave and Coldplay... even Linda Rhondstat (Back when she made real music with the Stone Ponies). I'll even get sentimental over some old America tune from time to time.

Much of what I used to call Rock & Roll is now classified as Easy Listening or Country; when I was young, the Beatles and then the Eagles were the soundtrack of my life. My wife of course sings me opera and plays classical guitar; so I guess THAT has to be my personal favorite. ;) There is a lot of great music out there, and a lot of bad music... but it was all part of my life, and even some of the bad music still makes me feel nostalgic for the times when they were popular.

About the only thing I can't get into is Death Metal and Gangsta Rap/HipHop; For the most part, there really isn't a musical component involved, just bad hate-filled prose screeched over a cacophany of mouth noises or warmed over Hendrix licks played 10 times as load and a tenth as well.

I still wouldn't mind them so much if they weren't mostly about killing people like me. :p

In the past I met several pop and rock stars. I spoke with Moby personally. Did you know that his real name is Richard (same as my name), and that he is vegan/vegetarian. When i spoke with him at a gig in 1995, he was a very shy person. On TV he is the pop-star, but in personal life, Moby is a shy man. Still a great musician.

I also met the singer of GBH (UK punkband), Wattie (from the Exploited), Paris Hilton (in a pub) (she is indeed a spoilt rich lady, who cares more about her dog as for poor punkers), and several others.

Music is also a huge passion for me. Toughbooks is my 2nd biggest passion.

Did I tell you, that sometimes, when i go to a punkrock gig, that i take one of my toughbooks with me. I did several tests, to test if the CF-27 , CF-28 and CF-M34 are "Punkrock" proof.

The tests involved a non-standard procedure:

    - survive 30 minutes on the floor in front of the stage while a famous punkrock band is performing live, with 100 punks doing the pogo dance
    - survive several beer spills
    - survive thrown at walls by punks

All toughbooks survived the Punkrock-Proof test. They still work. They got some more scratches, but still work.

So, yeah. Cool or not ?

Toughbooks are not only MIL standard
    but also

    PUNKROCK proof

Mine usually is a mix of hard rock, country, little bit of techno/house. I usually have my XM radio on when I'm poking around in my 28, tweaking things, etc. For rock I have a mix of Sevendust, Avenged Sevenfold, stuff right around there. Country for me is Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean. Techno is almost always Deadmau5 :)

I am a cyberpunk., hardcore gabberpunk from Holland. I like listening to hard music, but also like to listen to classic music. My whole life is kinda hardcore, from living in squats, on the streets, to living in a nice villa in Belgium. The Toughbook laptops fit my personality perfectly.

A rude Punkrock boy needs a rude/tough notebook.

Haha. I sometimes make jokes among my friends who use apple or other brand laptops, that i only use PunkRock proof laptops. Only Toughbooks... hehe. I also take my toughbooks to punkrock concerts.

Last summer , i went to a small festival , in Holland. It was in the open air, for 2 days. cheap beer, interesting people, cool bands. Fantastic atmosphere. I took my CF-18 mk1 with me. Lost it while being drunk. Found it in the rain, in a pool of water. and mud. Took it , went to the bar, put it for 1 hour next to the campfire, and started it up. Of course, the CF-18 still worked, altough a bit muddy... hehe.

Thats what i call "Punkrock proof"

The CF-18 was only with its bottom in the pool of water. (about 1.5 cm in the water) So not fully covered under the water. Otherwise i guess, it wouldnt boot....

I have also several gigs of MP3s. In Holland its still "legal" to download mp3s from torrents. But we pay special tax on all media things like mp3 players, harddrives, blank DVDs etc.

Even while i have downloaded many gigs of music semi-illegal, i prefer to listen to random internet radio stations..

why ? Because after several years, those gigs of mp3s become boring after a while...

No problem. The easiest would be for me to send you a hdd with the collection on it, then you could pick what you want, or copy it all to another hdd and go through it at your leisure, then send it back. I'll send you a PM tonight or tomorrow.

I do like to listen to music, mark knopfler, caro emerald, easy classic music but I nearly never can listen without a headset. But all headsets either block out the sound or are open and you hear all kinds of noises which is rather inconvenient as sometimes people want to talk to me (and get an answer and not some wiggling head) and sometimes I don't want to hear the noise around me and concentrate on my writing/phone conversation.
I hope I can get my hands on a phonak freecom 7000 (I'm sorta kind of guy that also would like the binford 2000 hehe) and they have an volume button for passing throug outside sound or not..
With those custom made nylon earshells I can listen all day to music and choose if I want to hear the outside or not and if I do so, how loud (or soft).

I'm huge into electronica, trance, house, dubstep etc. I enjoy music from most of the major EDM labels like Armada, Coldharbour, UBK, Perfecto, etc. Artists like Paul Oakenfold, Deadmau5, Armin Van Burren, Nadia Ali, Gareth Emery, Paul Van Dyk, etc are my favorite.

On the other hand I'm quite diverse, I listed to all kinds of music depending on my mood including country, alternative, rock, and even at times rap lol. All in all my roots are in EDM though.
