After thinking about how I can contribute to a forum full of technical wizards, I decided to share some software that I've found very useful. Besides my all time favorite, Acronis True Image, I have found a webcam software that lets you use your cellular phone and as a webcam. When you use bluetooth you don't use one of the precious USB ports which are not plentiful in toughbooks. It is found here Bluetooth Webcam Software

It's not for every BT cell phone with a camera but this is VERY cool software.

They have a version that works with any bluetooth camera phone that has java. Bluetooth Webcam Lite I haven't tried the lite version but I really like the regular version.

Nice tool, but not for my mobil-phone :( but the next will be compatible

    my 2cent:
NHC http://www.pbus-167.com/nhc/nhc.htm is a must have for a notebook to step down and control the powerdrain.
    my cf29mk5 works in 600MHz-mode only with 0,7V instead 0,988V :) and in 1.6GHz-mode with 0,988V instead 1.340V :D

u got a longer batterie-time (to dim the screen helps much more, i know) and a cooler laptop.

Does the CF-29 already have a power save feature of cutting CPU in half when not in use? I know my CF-28 did, I would monitor and find it running at 500mhz instead of 1000mhz. So what would be the point of this software? You get an hour+ extra just by moving the brightness of the monitor to the Middle.

Yes, my cf-29 has an banias intel core with 1.6GHz -multiplicator 16- and can be stepped to 600MHz -multiplicator 6.
With NHC u can configure the speed-steps of ur cpu voltage under the normal value like i wrote in the other post. If the voltage is going down, ur current consumption and the thermal emitting of the cpu is going down. So u can get also an hour+ and an thermal cooler notebook, so ur components can live longer without heat-stress.
There is the option to use a batterie maximized profile, which runs the cpu only in the lowest frequence or a power -profile, where only maximum warp is given (with all the heat) or my favourite: the dynamic-switching-profile, where in dependence from the processload the frequence (and the voltage) is moving.
Also there is an temperature-control for the cpu and harddisk integrated.
Try it and u understand, what i mean. My english is not so good, sorry

Involved with the work that I am, I find Truecrpyt to be a very valuable tool. It allows you to encrypt portions or the whole of your PC. Very useful if you're like me and have to handle senstive customer information from time to time.

Also another staple personally is openoffice, a great office suite... also for free.

I also use NHC like an earlier poster does, works wonders. Then I use a whole slew of security related apps that are most certainly not 'must haves' for most people. If anyone is interested I'd be happy to post links to them as well.
