Hi all! I have it finally and i have a few questions now its my first time with toughbooks.
I turned it on and i found the screen with very low color compared with every other laptop or computer i have and i looked on the configuration and could not fix that. Are the screen of the toughbooks just like that or is it just mine?
Also the only resolution it lets me put is 800 x 600, is that normal?
Another thing i want to know is how to know it have bluetooth installed because i can see some bt software but i cant make it work.
Another one, it comes with DVD but it does not read any DVD or CD but it appears on MyPC, do you think it is broken?
And the last thing, is not there any space to place the stylus?
Thank you very much for ur help, please dont get tired of me very soon because im going to be here asking a lot in the next few days :D

800x600 is normal for the 12 inch trans screens, but not for the 13.3 inch screens. Measure the screen? If it is 13.3 it is probably a driver issue. I'd be happy to try to help you get the right driver if that is the case.

Talk to TB about bluetooth or read his thread about his endeavors with it. Mine does not have it so I have little experience with it.

With the drive issue, does the drive spin up? Can you hear it? Have you tried multiple disks?

Finally with the stylus issue, no not by default, TB has a project I'm watching about making one though.... We'll have to see.

The color on the 12 inchers are off a bit because they use a transreflective technology (a reflective surface behind the LCD) which makes them more readable in sunlight, but washed out and silvery in color. Sorry bud.

They're really rare to see on CF-29s.

I'm not fond of the color range of the transreflective screens myself they're more then just 'cool' in hue, they're washed out and dull looking without true black.

It is possible I believe to swap them, or at least it should be. (my experience is with CF-28s which are easy to swap.)

I don't have any screens save the one on my CF-29 and it is not for sale, perhaps someone else can help you out more.

    Hey Answer,

Tweak the Graphis options...right click on yer desktop. Thats what I did and it helped a little (on the 28 12"). I dont know about the 12" TS screen on the 29 but it helped on the 28. I have not seen much in the way of 29 13" screens for sale. Good luck with everything.

The 12" screen is a rarity on the 29... You're like the 2nd one I've heard of.

Sorry... 800 X 600 is tops. You can't up the resolution. The color is washed out on the 12's... I really can't see why someone would buy a TF screen on the 29 because the 13" screen is so bright I certainly have NO problem reading it outside.... Even in the brightest sun.

That being said... They are easy to swap out. I see the screens for the 29 come up on ebay about 1-2 times per month.

If the DVD drive isn't co-operating and neither is the seller, it's a fairly cheap fix, and you can even upgrade to a DVD/CD-RW combo drive for under $30.

    I'm still baffled that anybody ordered a 29 with a 12".

If it's cheap enough... Besides, most people don't realize it's a TF screen until after they get it.

Its just that i didnt know it was different, i just though it was smaller. This one was almost new thats why i got it, no scratches at all. Im just pissed of about the color and resolution. Ill look for a bigger one and ill install it when i find it.
About the dvd/cd rw, where can i find one for 30? Take notice that im in spain and no all the sellers send them here. The seller of my tb offered me to change it for one that works and give me the floppy for free, i just have to pay for the sending cost that is about 20$.
    Thank you for everything!

answer in order to change out the lcd, you will need both a front lcd cabinet and a new lcd unit.

Oh, I neglected that part. I just assumed you were in North America (US/Canada). In that case, see what he can do for you first, and I'll see if I can find something.

It is the best forum I watch. It is good enough that I can't help but want to give back.

It has some of the most knowing and absolutely helpful people I've seen. I'm talking about you: Toughbook, Modly, ZeroFlight, TBTech29 and mnementh, plus others I'm sure that escape my mind at the moment. I don't know what else you get out of helping but you have my appreciation.

Ive been reading about 2 weeks before buying the CF29 and I read other forums and never find this "buen rollo" (dont know how to say in English but must be something like good feeling).
    Thanks again!

I don't get anything other than feeling appreciated, important, getting an inflated ego, etc. I have a lot of specific knowledge that can be useful and people seem to want some of it so I try to give it. Once in awhile you get/give a little more, such as the 28 project TB headed up for the soldier.
