Usually, I sit/lay on the couch, and set my TB on a pillow on my lap, or it's mounted in my dock in the van. I have it set up on a desk right now that is cuasing the underside of my forearms to rest (this is not usually the case) on the front corners of the palm rest. There is a bit of paint worn off those 2 corners, and the SOB is shocking me!
Plugged in or on the battery, 1 corner or the other or both corners at thesame time, it doesn't matter, it's still juicin' me. (this sounds silly) I even tried my tongue just to make sure.

Anyone know why, or have had this problem?

Is your LCD grounded? Normally there's quite a bit of attention given to insulating that puppy.
Speaking of puppies....a while back I had my generator running...Briggs + 72 cadillac alternator. My pup yelped and 1 second afterward a diode went on the alternator. Interesting!

It happened in California too. Is there a pattern here?

I will probably be corrected but, I believe that the only voltage which would give you a noticeable shock in a Toughbook running on battery would have to come from the backlight inverter or something in that area.

Someone else had a post on this same problem a few months back. I think it has to do with the inverter somehow.

    Shocking

This happens ALL THE TIME for me with Macbook Pro's... (ya know, the tin ones...) only on the corners, just like you have here. I think the corners is the smallest, sharpest point in which electricity can flow.

Yah, he is a bit of a wimp. Rather spectacular in a way. I thought he had been shocked.

No I meant he heard the whine of the diode failing. Dogs have super hearing, don't they?

I totally agree deere. Their ears are amazing. I was just commenting that the other dogs would wince, Bill would yelp....and blame it on me. I heard it happen too but it was so quick and I'm half deaf I couldn't differentiate the sounds, I thought a key gave on the pulley at first.

As far as the grounding etc. has anyone mapped out the locations of the different types of tape? That metallic looking stuff in the area of the LCD may have more that one function. Is it conductive?
The CF-51 has a separate ground wire to the chassis from the lid. Next time I have one open I'll take a pic of where it originates.

The shiny tape is Kapton tape. It is electrically insulated and heat resistant.

Macbooks, for example are held together with Kapton tape, tin foil and rubber bands... :(
