Well today I was trying to hedge my bet and get a few more toughbooks for our projects, and was online bidding on lots of laptops, from my laptop, while listening and taking notes at a work related training class. Yes, not the brightest idea, but it's not like I got to pick the auction closing time and I really needed the inventory.
Then the addiction kicks in, I get distracted by the promotional test results coming across the crackberry, two blings come up indicating Im outbid, I'm thinking Im not going to get any so I up my minimum, and the next thing I know, I'm the proud owner of 100 laptops and a large charge on my credit card. Oh @#$%^.![]()
OK, deep breath, with the end result, I now have a 100 laptops, 61 of them toughbooks, 28s, 29s, 30s, 18, 47s, 48s, 51s, and the remainder being a combination of Compaq, dell, gateway and MPC. There's always Ebay.
If it wasnt bad enough, I now have to drive five hours each way to get them, but then as I've learned here, I cant be held responsible, it's an addiction.![]()
I share this moment in the hope that others might learn from my mistake, share a chuckle, and stand at the ready to say, "what a dumb@#$."
-
Looks like there will be more than enough to go around here, you "dumb@#$"
Jokes aside, are these 61 TBs parts machine or complete? What's the line up for the 30s and 51s? -
When you catch your breath, how about putting together some kind of inventory list with basic specs on each of the TB's? Besides, how could anyone be considered a dumb@#$ until all of the TB's are sold and only if for less than you paid. In the long run, it may have been a smart move, especially if they are decent units.

Sounds like the kids will be stuck with eating kraft dinner & hot dogs ,until you get recovery from the surplus
Wait a minute Kids love kraft dinner & hot dogs -
Yea, maybe I wont jump off the ledge just yet, will wait to see if they are as listed and what the condition is.
Overall, I'll keep 47 of the toughbooks, basicaly all the 28s, 29s, 30s, and 18.
But everthing else will go. Below is from the auction inventory, just the toughbooks I'm not going to keep. I just don't have the time to mess with another set or series, so I'll stick with what I think I know.

not a brain fart, just the sound of you landing on your feet again. I think you might be a smart businessman..........Driller

Well, I unloaded the truck and started cleaning and stacking the computers, after a fun drive south.
Having received a few PM's on the CF-51's, I took a look at those first, and overall they look ok, albeit after scrubing the top covers with goo gone, and using other cleaners on the inside.
I powered each to the BIOS, though one had a BIOS password, and all seemed to work ok. They're as follows.

I pulled out the batteries, RAM and the HD caddies out of the five that had them, and will photograph all of them in the next day or so. As soon as I figure out prices, I will post here before going to Ebay.
I cant say they'll be a sweet deal, as I'll need to get as much as I can for those units that will sell, as there are a bunch that wont sell for much, and I have a hefty bill coming, but I'll try to be fair to those who wanted one.
I'm going to try and hold onto the 29's, but may have to sell some of those as well, to include some CF29, models C,E,L,M,N.
Again, thanks for the ride.
