So I got a CF-52 that needed a keyboard and thought as it was a mk1 it was the perfect time to see if the cpu could be changed.

First let me tell you they don't fool around when they tape the keyboard down, that's why I did it with this one. Got it out and was greeted with no access to anything......unless I want to remove the entire top half.

I don't......doggone it,nice design but not worth doing. So I will not be changing cpu's anytime soon and still don't know if you can. I tried......next victim please.

The CF-51 is the only one that you can upgrade the CPU. Most of us have upgraded the 51MK3 to Core 2 Duo

I sell the heck out of CF-51's with T7200 cpu's in them, just got 3 of them with zero hours. 2 are already gone. I really like the CF-52 above all of the others (8 models) I have.

Most Toughbook unit either Fully Rugged or Semi-rugged has a designed to limit access at the top bottom surface to minimized liquid intrusion just incase of accidental spill. For your info.

From my experience with a dodgy deal, it does look like the CF-52 keyboard is stuck down with a considerable amount of what I guess is double sided tape. Thats why the keyboard was so bent it would no longer sit flush so they could only get one screw back in the speaker cover to hold it back in! Under the keyboard the cables are covered with a metal plate that is secured with four screws.
As most of the screws were missing it was relatively easy to seperate it. I think the actual processor might be accessed from underneath, i.e you remove the bottom (like the CF-74) rather than the top as on a CF-51, but as others have pointed out it its not replacable for the average person!
