Sorry, I am not a gamer. I had to turn it on and configure the installtion then loaded all the updates. I have 1 hour on the clock now!

I have a lot going on at the moment, working on my golf cart charger to figure out why it shuts off too soon and had my fourth grandson born last night! I will use it more tonight but it is nice to see 4 CPU's working for me in the task manager and had the ram usage up to 3.8 g during the update process. The screen is pretty cool, it has an eye that adjust the screen based on the light it is in. I am not a fan of the antenna for the WAN on both sides but I guess I will get used to it.

Luckily it still doesn't have a webcam. There are still companies with buildings and area's that really dislike camera's and webcams.

@azTony, good feeling, unobxing!!! Really nice computer.

And a fourth grandson, you're a rich man!!!

I told my wife that we better buy this thing now while money is still there. With 4 grand kids (3 and 4 born within a month) I am gonna be broke!!

You would be surprised at the price I paid. Once I returned the unit I was having problems with I rethought what I wanted to do and then looked at new units. This just happened to be at the same time I met with the Forest Service on the GIS software installation and the problems they were having. When I was asked what unit I have and I told them what I was looking at, I found out I get a government discount and this may be deductible since I am a volunteer and I do not get paid. I need to check into that write off more but the discount put this within my budget and not much more than the used MK3 I tried to buy. I barely touched it last night, it now shows 1 hour in the BIOS and yesterday's date for the start day.

I now have a Toughbook that is about 12 hours older than my youngest grandson!

Love to have one if I could afford it now..

i love craftsmanship in all things, which of course lead me to Toughbook..

Looking around i came across Getec..I like them, in fact prefer the design much more.

However parts would be a bear. not worth it. The Toughbook is really the best option I feel still.
    Parts readily available...inexpensively...

In the end Ive ended up making my own as every one I seem to get, no matter how I try, always has some sort of damage or issue.
One has a good touchscreen, but earlier version, one is latest version, but with bad screen, one has aback lit keyboard, the other not, etc..

After buying upgraded wifi, parts, GPS, etc..i still saved a fortune, however it would be nice to simply buy one as you have with everything there and not mess with all of it.

    enjoy it in good health.

@azTony: nice way of buying it. I use it for my work, every day. Just like now: sitting outside on a nice chair, next to the river, just typing a report for one of the projects. There is no other laptop I know of that is able to do all this and still be a servicable laptop with easy and plenty spare parts!

@demian: don't worry, you have a nice toughbook! And buying one of the shelf is nice, but very costly. Even for me, I bought a brand new one, but if I would have to do it again, i would buy a nice used one. I don't need the latest and greatest, with extra memory and an SSD a mk2 is fast enough for almost any task. It's not build for gaming, but perfect at serious work. But at the time my macbook air 11 was fubar and I needed something. So i bought an available mk5.

I built my CF-18 and loved it for years but needed more, looked at the cost of buying several CF-19's to build and the up front cost and time involved building and then reselling what was left over was not what I wanted to do. So I bought a used CF-19 MK3 that had issues with the screen and the GPS. Sent it back and was told they had no problems with a GPS that failed me 3 times and was told the screen performs as it was designed to. They sent a "replacement unit" that had the same issues, the screen was a little better but they had adjusted the sensitivity up is all so I sent it back and got a refund.

The cost of that transaction, the frustration, the people telling me that is the way a touch screen should work and the GPS was working fine pushed me to look closer. There are workers that are wanting me to build them a used CF-19 but I want to spend my time doing other things this year.

    Thanks for the note :)

not worried, i know it is really near the same as all thru mk3 in many ways, and absolutely, the latest and greatest within world of personal computing rarely is, I know...

..except when it comes to Toughbook though. Nevertheless, i ve never been into games and its not whhat i use it for..

This will lst me a very long time. the design, size, and capabilities are all that i need. easily upgradable, andnow with new hdd and wifi, need nothing more...

...until you mentioned SSD...hmmm...that would hv been a good idea...sigh. wish you didnt mention that and remind me! (smile)

    so it goes :)

    have a good day.

I have been loading a lot of maps on the HDD to support the 3 different mapping software packages. I have a LOT of map data which is why I went with the 1T HDD.

So far so good, lightning fast compared to the CF-18 of old

I have OziExplorer, Nat Geo TOPO and DeLorme TOPO! installed and run all 4 at the same time. We use Trimble Juno 3 series handhelds for the Forest Service and I just had a conference call with a representative from Germany on getting the same software to run on the Toughbook. Some of the data we collect is done by walking and others by driving. The handheld is fine when walking but when driving the Toughbook mounted in my truck is preferred since I do not have to stop to read the tiny screen.
