Having just become the proud owner of my first CF-M34 Toughbook ( 1.0GHz CF-M34CGFZKM Mk7), I am very impressed with this one from our very own ohlip:

    Panasonic Toughbook CF-M34, 700 MHz, Custom 20 Chan'l GPS

Wonder what it'd cost for him to "mod" the GPS into my unit? ;)

ps to ohlip: I want a copy of that image file for my CF-M34's Windows desktop! :D

    Hey CAP,

If Top Cop is not interested in the port replicator, I'd be interested in one that works as a vehicle dock ....

    Thx,

TopCop..! I can as long as you will provide all the necessarry hardware. :D But!.?

For your info. A coincide with your post, I am doin one right now and the only missing part is the antena base. I need a piece chunk plastic or a carbon fiber piece with 2" X 1/2' X 2" w.h.L respectively. Here is the picture inside and I even repainted the lid cover coz its totally scratch up.

Teo, very nice, is the block on the right side of the display for wireless or gps antenna? Or both?

    Top Cop, PM sent.

Springfield, You're second in line but when I said cheap, I meant cheap. Google the Port Rep, it comes with rubber feet but there used to be an adapter plate available. Any handy 12 year old could make the plate from aluminum, steel, or poly-carbonate in an hour or so. It is a full base/cradle not just the top part of the computer.

Congrats on your new toy Top Cop. I have the exact same model (MK7) as well, along with a CF-M34NPFZQM (MK3). I bought both separately over a year ago and have started to tinker with them now. My MK7 came with a faulty battery that won`t take a charge (CF-VZSU15A,Ylw tab), otherwise everything else works. The MK3 unit came minus batt.,cover, H.D and Caddy, otherwise it powers up fine.

My question to fellow MK7 users is is there really a difference in CF-M34 batteries? I`ve started checking for a replacement and some links display two separate model numbers like this for example:
    Panasonic CF-17 CF-34 CF-M34 Laptop Battery

To me they both look identical, but How can I be certain that it is compatible for my MK7 model at least? And why is only one option compatible for the Mk3 model M34N? What would make it different - would it be the charge circuit PCB components inside of the battery? To Ohlip could you spare some knowledge to this issue as it is a bit confusing to me.

To Top Cop and any other M34 users, if you do have a currently working battery installed, can you report the battery life you get and the model number of said battery? I`d greatly appreciate any help before I buy a battery for the Mk7 ( the Mk3 can wait a bit longer ). I plan on taking a vacation soon and I`d like to get the Mk7 in top shape as I think for its size it would be ideal for portability, otherwise my fallback plan is to take my CF-18KHHZBBM along on my trip (its bottom cover has some dents and holes, so I`d have to get that replaced before I travel, otherwise it works splendidly). My CF-29 which I usually take along almost everyday to work, would just be a bit too big for the trip.

I thank you in advance for any and all help.

For all of the CF-m34 that actually handed. I never experience or whatever the difference with the MK. I swapped from MK2 to Mk7 or vise versa without any issue. the only difference is that the yellow tab battery has more power that the blue tab.

I recomend to buy you a yellow tab battery. This unit is old and you can not can find any battery that we can say brand new(never) and if say brand new, never use but it still old. It means an old stock that def..ted overtime eventhough it isn't using. Maybe you can try to freeze it.

I thank you for replying, Ohlip. I may try using the freeze method that you suggested. I even recall an old topic that suggested that too.

Another question. This concerns USB on my M34 MK3 unit. I think it is USB1 on it. I tested a LiveUSB Ubuntu on my M34 MK7 and the drive is detected and can boot. But on the M34 MK3 unit the same USB drive seems to not be detected, not even the light flashes. I switched to another Flash drive ( Memorex) and that too fails. I tried a USB multi card reader to it. No detection whatsoever. But these USB devices are detected at boot on my MK7 CFM34. I read the Leslie Wright CFm34 link ( CF-M34 USB boot by Leslie Wright) that states that MK3`s and Mk7`s can boot from USB. But I am having no luck so far.
Have you ever tried booting a LiveUSB on a Mk3 model, and were you successful and drive activity led flashed? If so, then could it be that the MK3`s USB port is "shot?" Or is it that the MK3 USB is too slow for booting LiveUSB (I doubt this very much)? Does the MK7 units have USB 2 port, or do all of the CF-M34s (MK1 - Mk7) just have USB1 port?

Thank you again, as well as anyone reading this who can share some insight/experience.

On Mk3 you must need just plain cd rom drive not a dvd drive and also you must have an external power for External cd rom drive. Yes! its 1.1 usb port. I have only one luck on booting with cd rom drive on MK3.

On Mk7, It is usb 2.0

All models CF-M34 that I've seen (Mk3-Mk7) take the same battery. The CF-M17 is almost identical to CF-M34 and takes the same battery.

The main difference between the CF-17 and the CF-M34 is that the CF-17 has a permanent folding handle, while the CF-M34 has a removable hand strap in its place.

They both have the very same Operating Instruction Manual; with the differences noted:

CF-17 Series (Model with a handle)
The handle can be used as a tilt stand as shown in the illustration.

CF-M34 Series (Model with a hand strap)
The hand strap is convenient for computing while standing.
Adjust the length of the belt so that the computer does not fall by mistake, and firmly hold the computer when using it.

    Came in yesterday; thanks!

    Also; I just installed a Crucial 200-pin 1GB DDR SODIMM into my 1GHz Mk7 CF-M34: WOW: talk about a speed increase!!! :D

    Next upgrade contemplated: WWAN.

Any ideas on how well the CDPD antenna for these units will work with AT&T’s 850 MHz and 1900 MHz 3G network?
