    Hi All,

This is my first post here. I need to get copies of two windows files to generate the Panasonic logo and support button in "Properties"

    Here is the story....

I just got a used, but in practically new condition Toughbook CF-18. It is a CF-18NHHZBBM model.

I spoke with Panasonic technical support right after I registered with them, and I told them I wanted to do a fresh install of Windows XP etc. They said just go ahead and use any Windows XP CD's that I had on hand for the install. I did this, and I used the COA on the bottom of my laptop to activate windows, and it worked fine. So I have a legal and activated copy of WinXP running.

I told them I wanted to make sure that the Panasonic logo still appeared on the "General" tab in the computer properties dialog box (that you get when you right-click My Computer and select "Properties"). They said "that is generated by BIOS and will show up after you re-install the OS". WRONG. When I re-installed my OS this info was not present.

A call to tech support, and a little research later, I learned that this info is generated by two small files in the System32 directory. Of course, mine is wiped out so I can't get these files back. If i had been given the correct information prior to re-installing Windows, I could have easily saved these two files before re-installing. I am hoping to get copies of them from another toughbook user.

    The files are:
    oeminfo.ini
    oemlogo.bmp

These are in the C:/Windows/System32 directory. The files from any Toughbook running Windows XP will work (it doesn't have to be a CF-18).

Can someone copy and E-mail me these two files? To re-iterate, this has nothing to do with licensing or copyrights etc. These files simply generate the Panasonic logo and support information text in the General tab of the My Computer Properties dialog box. They don't contain any registration information etc. They are the same on all Toughbooks. I have a registered CF-18 running a fully legal and activated copy of Windows on it....I am not trying to pull anything shady here  .

If you can help me out, send me a private message and I will respond with my E-mail address.

    Thanks!

    JB007Rules you DO rule!

I got the files, edited my model number to CF-18 in the INI file, and everything shows up perfectly in properties.

I appreciate the fast help. I hope I can return the favor to other users on these forums.

And excuse my totally NOOB assumption about private messages, I guess maybe this forum doesn't support those :)

Hey JG, thanks for posting this up. Something I never thought of but tried it anyway. Sure enough, there's that Panny logo and it works with Win2kPro too but... it turned my 48 into a CF-30, even after the edit!!! What about yours?

I edited mine and it now says cf-29. I dunno why yours is not changing maybe the file is read only and it is not saving the changes. I did it in notepad and just hit open with notepad then edited it and saved it then moved it to the sys32 folder and bam it works like a champ.
