Can anybody help me out here?
I am a scientist working in the middle of the icesheet at Summit, Greenland right now, and my Toughbook is not recognizing my dataloggers on the USB ports.

    It is model CF-29 NBLGZBM

I recently wiped the hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP. I let quite a few automatic Windows updates run after installation.

I am running some simple dataloggers that connect on the USB ports, and I am controlling them with software called PicoLog. I have uninstalled and reinstalled PicoLog, and I am pretty confident I have all the correct drivers installed with this software. When the software tries to scan the USB ports, it will not recognize the dataloggers. The USB port will recognize my flash drive, however.....and with the identical software and dataloggers, everything works fine on another laptop. So I am thinking it has something to do with me wiping the hard drive and not getting all the drivers back that I need to run the USB ports.
Is there some sort of driver for this that is not included in Windows XP?

    Thanks,
    PJW

Hi! You need to install a driver, a USB to serial. Its free software that you can find on the net. I recommend the prolific usb to serial. Its stable as far as I know. Good luck and keep us inform what is happening on the icesheet.

Make sure that " Legacy USB support " is enabled in BIOS.
The dataloggers we use are serial devices and on the toughbooks without serial ports (CF-18 digitizers) we use the Prolific USB to Serial adapter. No special drivers are needed, XP/Vista and W7 have the required support .

See above as to the correct drivers for a Mk5 CF-29.

Obviously, being non touch screen you do not need the Panasonic Hand Writing utility; nor the GPS Registry Patch.
BTW: This is one of the Mk5 units that can handle the 2GB DDR2 memory module upgrade. :D

    Thanks for the advice.
I am downloading this USB to serial driver for the heck of it, but my dataloggers are not serial cables, they plug in with USB cables to the USB ports on my toughbook. This toughbook is USB 1.0 I believe, but this computer was running the datalogger just fine before I cleaned the hard drive and reinstalled windows.
I checked BIOS and Legacy USB support was enabled.
    So far, still stumped.

    Nope: USB 2.0
It's best to use the genuine Panasonic CF-29 Product Recovery CD-ROM Set when doing this.
Are you sure you are using the USB version of PicoLog?

This is the same driver I suggested in your other thread. I'm guessing its what you need. Its required to allow the serial data from a USB GPS to be used, your data loggers are similar.

Followed up. As the capt'n said, you still need a usb to serial driver eventhough you have usb dataloggers module.

If you can't find it, PM me and I will send to you via e-mail.
