I just bought yet another Toughbook; the CF-28 and CF-30 are still here and working but I got the bug for a CF-53. My employer issued me one back in 2012 and it is still running strong but I wanted one of my own. Anyway, got one off eBay sans hard disk, CF-532AUZYBM.

Can anyone tell me what the model number breaks down to? I have looked online for the past hour and came up empty.

My intent is to install Win 10 w/ 16GB ram and 240GB SSD.

    Thanks in advance....

The computer arrived. It was in much better condition than I expected; just a few dings and scratches. I went through the bios and made sure everything was set up the way I wanted it. I installed the SSD and installed Win10. After the install there were only a few items not working in device manager. I’m going to hold off on the Panasonic device drivers until after Windows is finished updating. When it gets up to date I’m going to disable automatic updates and then install the correct drivers. Hopefully this will keep me from having to do it over.

    Downloaded, installed and configured.

Do you just leave the program running all the time? Or just run it every now and then if your changes get reverted?

I had found a thread on how to disable the automatic updated in Win 10 and that is my next step after catching up on the past 4 years of updates.

That I could not tell you. It's been a while. I was running it when I was trying to get W10 up and running but gave up and went back to W7.

    Ok, next issue.

    I ordered 16GB of memory. 2 X 8 GB 204 pin DDR3 SO DIMM DDR3 1600 PC3 12800.

The computer won’t recognize it. Did I order the wrong memory?

The spec sheet for the computer says DDR3 but the spec for the processor says DDR3L. I will be exchanging it next week.

    Thanks for the info!

The new memory worked great, everything is up and running fine. I am letting Win 10 do its own thing and so far none of the nightmares I've read about. I have 1 driver missing for the wireless switch (ACPI/MAT0028). Its not readily available on the Panasonic site and I'm hesitant to use any 3rd party sites for the driver so I'll wait it out.

Someone put SSD’s on sale and I bought a 1TB Samsung for ~$100 and swapped out the hard disk. The drive came with cloning software so it was a painless transition. I put Win 7 64 on the other partition. Not because Win 10 was misbehaving but because I could not get it to talk to my printer/scanner all in one. I also had issue with Win 10 not supporting some programs and crashing. Anyway, it dual boots and has more space than I’ll need anytime soon. Then there is the addition of the backlit keyboard....

My only complaint on the CF-53 is the way the LCD is mounted, its taped to the bezel and that's all that holds it. Do not get water anywhere near the LCD,a drop of water will wick up between the layers and ruin it.....ask me how I know. :D

Crashing...yep I know what you mean. That is why I am back on W7. It seamed every W10 update would break something and I would spend hours fixing it.

That's was the first thing I did then I upgraded the memory to 16GB and 240GB SSD

Well I won't have to worry about that. Mine stays in the dock under my big screen TV. So cool surfing the net with a 55" screen.
