Hi folks,
I just read thru the sticky on the 28. I just scored this baby off ebay.
My # CF28PCJAZDM, it has a XP+3, touch screen, 512 memory, 30gig hd, 800cpu, and the floppy was swapped out for a CD/RW-DVD at some point![]()
I went to Panasonic laptop site but I could not find any details regarding where everything is at, and what the features are.
I just realized that I don't know how to turn it off and on exept via the crome latch thing on the right front. I closed the top, but I could see that the little green lights, uh, hard drive light and battery light, were still on (I don't know what the other ones are for...)
Also, what is the MP Release for on the underside?
There is a door on the right side, between the modem plug and power jack... What's it for?
And a smoke plastic window(?) between the door and the power jack?
Also, behind the rear door, there is a funny slot between the mic jack and the external monitor jack. What's it for?
Again, behind the rear door, all the way on the left, there is another jack...?
Currently, I'm using a g3 sierra dongle to access the internet via the usb port.
I get a notice from XP that my usb driver isn't updated, but I haven't noticed any performance problems... Doesn't XP support USB 2.0? (XP is new for me, having stuck it out with W2K until now...)

1. You turn it off by shutting down windows. Media Pocket light, Caps lock and num lock, media bay activity light.
2. MP release is to remove the CD/DVD rom or whatever is in the MP pocket ie 2nd battery or floppy.
3. Dual PCMCIA slots that will take a PCMCIA card, ie: usb, wifi, sd card, to many types to mention.
4. Infared sensor, used to transfer files between compliant devices such as cameras.
5. Vehicle mount or port replicator jack.
6. XP supports usb 2 but the cf-28 is usb 1.1 let xp update the driver. -
Thanks!
I've never owned a new computer, let alone a laptop before. I've assembled a few desktops, but not recently. The question about how to turn it off came at a frustrating moment when I closed the lid, turned it over, and attempted to flip the mp release. It didn't seem to want to budge much, so I flip it over, opened the lid, and nothing but battery lite and that z lite were responding, and it wouldn't shut off with the chrome thingy. I took out the battery, put it back in, and it then booted okay. -
The media pocket lever has a release button that has to be slid to one side to release the lever. Probably in the Windows power options someone had changed it so that when the lid was closed it went into standby mode or hibernation mode. To get the computer out of hibernation you have to rotate the power lever.
Welcome to the forum, keep reading the forum stickies at the top of the page and if you don't find the operators manual there then google CF-28 Operators Manual and you should find it fairly easily. -
You need to find the Owners Manual and read up... this is all covered for the most part... There are also many stickies to read... If you need a service or users manual... Just let us know!
New Guy and his cf-28, general questions...
