Interesting laptop for a very good price, but it's not Toughbook series :)
And I don't like thick screen bezel. I have some CF-T5's and their screens have very attractive size vs footprint.

It absolutely is - it's the "lighter" version like the S/SX, N/NX, etc.

Actually this is the return of the R series and I for one am very glad to see it. It's like the ultraportables are making a comeback :) It's reminiscent of a time when machines like the Vaios T and G as well as the Panasonic R ruled in this class.

Interesting model. I'm tired of all that thin ultra-portable without real battery life. Who cares about extra millimeters.
Now the question is where to get RZ4 in near term? Dynamism does not have it on website, conics.net looks down completely.

Funny about this - I noticed the Conics thing :( Have done a lot of business with them. E-mailed Brett about something else - no answer. Got my LX3 last fall through them. Their prices were pretty fair and I always got good customer service. If they are gone, RIP.

I called Dynamism on Tuesday - they didn't even know about it. They're now looking into it and it should show up soon on their site I would guess. I may just have Shoppingmalljapan.com order it for me and be done with it. Right now with the exchange rate the Premium Edition one runs roughly $3k. Figure a 10%markup, and being generous, it should be $3500. If Dynamism charges any more than that, it's highway robbery.

As much as I want it now (it's coming out 10/17), I may also wait until I go to Tokyo in December. We'll see. That way I can pay list price.

The "local" version with the slightly slower processor and specs would be under $3k and range in price.

On Panasonic Japan web site RZ4 is Let's Note series, not Toughbook. Not even mention of that word.
Maybe outside of Japan market it will have Toughbook label, like that SX2, we'll see. But right now, in Japan, it's Let's Note. Seems to me japanese are more honest using terms :))

    to what??

    P.S. RZ4 is a little tough though.

Historically speaking, all R-series - and I've owned several - were very tough little machines. Built to withstand 100lbs of direct pressure and so on...all because of the crowded trains in Japan...

I still have R2. It has very interesting screen size vs dimensions, but is made of very weak plastic. Feels very cheap :) And I can't believe it has any protection :)

Would you mind posting a quick review of your RZ?

Especially the display-quality interests me (Panasonic is famous for not using it's own high-quality panels but using low-quality panels in their toughbooks...)

Is it still made in Japan?

I've only had it a few days. Got it delivered to the hotel here in Tokyo. So far I'm liking it, but won't have it set up until I get back home to the USA. Won't post much more until I use it a lot more. I do love the form factor/weight, and IMO, already much more useful than the Surface Pro 3. I'm having a hard time finding the privacy filter and the keyboard cover - they're nowhere in stock. I will say this: it's a pretty fast little machine for normal tasks. I haven't run any VMs on it yet, but imperssed with normal performance so far. The RZ4 is also pretty silent.

Is anybody willing to write a brief review? I am especially interested in the quality of the panel (what panel is used?). Thanks!

i would like to know if the ram can be upgraded through standards SODIMMS or it's embedded in the motherboard.

im thinking of buying the FEBRUARY 2015 version with core m 31 y ... the november 2014 version was coming with the 10 y version. (actually there is a 100mhz in the graphic only improvements)

No way to upgrade RAM or SSD. Buy what you need. The Core M 5Y70 is pretty snappy for normal usage. I've even run VMs on it fairly well.

    Second issue...Please......
Let's not use .. name of God....That is an offensive statement to some people here...
    Thanks

I am guessing you will need to download and install a multi language version of Windows..You should be able to use your existing COA

My RZ came with 8.1 Pro so those steps worked. If you have a Local version of the RZ, maybe it won't work and a full reinstall of WIndows necessary. Lucky that Panasonic puts all the drivers on the C drive for you though.
