Like many of you I have always admired them from afar, fearing I would never own the object of my desire. The substantial price for a new one has kept me away. That all changed when I picked up one of the used CF-29s mk 3s that have hit the market. I got mine from Geeks.com
I mainly bought the Toughbook as a toy to tinker with but the performance has surprised me.
Model# CF-29HTM50BM. It has a few nicks and a little wear here and there but generally in excellent condition. Touchscreen works perfectly. The display is very nice. Very bright and clear. I love feel of the keyboard and the general heft of the unit. My only complaint/concern is the touchpad. It's well worn and a little balky. It's definately useable, just takes some getting used to.
So far I have added a 1 gig sim and swapped out the HD for a 160gb Western Digital unit.
I'm thinking about swapping in a light emissive keyboard. I use the built-in keyboard light on my Thinkpad quite a bit. I'm still looking at my options.
I see a few folks don't like the installed wi-fi card but so far I don't see a problem. It pulls in an excellent signal on my home wireless network.
I would like to have an internal GPS installed but for now I'm using an external puck type gps unit that works fine. Just not as neat as built-in.
Lastly I'm thinking about swapping in a DVD writer for the CD but haven't done much research yet.
I'm sure I'll have some specific questions but for now I just wanted to say "Hello" and mention how helpful I have found the forums so far.

Hey Mike, Welcome aboard! You came to the right place, There is a rumor that even Panasonic comes here from time to time to learn something new about the Toughbook or settle office bets!

Thanks for the welcome guys. The CF-29 FAQ has been very helpful to me. I followed Toughbook's walk through of a HD swap when I replace mine. Good stuff here.
