I have lost a few functions recently, no F1 F2, no F7 or F10 and system sounds are done. I did have the function keys work when I got it and the system sounds where very low and quickly disappeared.
Just started to do a fix, this pdf looks promising.
http://pc-dl.panasonic.co.jp/itn/su...ows 7_Upgrade_Step-by-Step_Guide_CF-19_30.pdf
It looks like this should do the trick. It is a exact model and operating system that I have.
-
What OS are you running now? I've never heard of a Toughbook losing function gradually unless it is a hardware failure.
-
Hmmmmmm....So, please post your model #... hard to tell if you have a CF-19 and/or a CF-30...Upgrading per Panasonic implies you are following the directions however, threads here show many doing it with a MK1-2...what's your system and operating system installed???
-
Very good point Toughbook; I can't explain the unprovoked changes by me or what I did?. But I do know since I got my Toughbook that was upgrade and doing fine. But before I could halt the hundreds of W7 profrssional online updates I started getting all these errors.
I know i had some sounds from the system sounds (the dings, and basic system signals from the laptop speaker) from the laptop. YES I did still do have sound form the plug in speaker out put. I do have the volume controlls for both speaker output and system output.
The sounds of the system sounds was limited and I could not change the volume and it was limited to a few command response. Ok I should be able to program this but NOT. The more I look into it the more I find it either a bios or simple driver error. I have downloaded several drivers and still am have no success.
I know I had fonctions and ability to change screen brightness when I unpacked it.
The only yellow triangle I see when going over the device manager is the PCI data Acquisition & signal processing controller.
More to your question toughbook. my OS is a W7, 32bit, in a Cf-30 MK2 with big 160G HD, for more reason a 3G listing RAM. -
Did you upgrade the BIOS when you installed W7? You most likely have an XP or Vista COA on the bottom. The BIOS needs to be updated.
Just so I understand... Are you saying that when you first got your Toughbook with the original OS installed everything worked and that it went haywire with W7... Or that you loaded W7 and it worked and then you gradually lost functionality?
Did you update your BIOS? -
NO I got it off ebay from a guy that did the up grades. I have not toughed the BIOS.
-
Toughbook, ......The cf30 mk2 does not have xp and/or vista bios. The mk1 does have 2 bios options. The mk2 does not require a bios change for win7.
dhardin......Please post your full model number and bios number. Include the ec revision also. The bios and ec number are on the first page of the bios.
dhardin....look in control panel in the programs and features. Look at the list of recently installed programs. What were the last few installed programs? One of those "may" be causing the issues. -
CF30 - FASRXAM, bios is Phoenix Tec LTD v2.00L15, 6/19/2008 .
I have not found the ec# yet.
update:
While in the bios setting to get more info for this fine help, I noticed the display setting was on [high or bright] I changed it to [normal] then exit and PRESTO i now have F1 and F2 function working. I haven't a clue how or what changed this setting, All I know this is the first time I have opened BIOS on this computer.
Call it weird... -
EC should be the line below the BIOS version.
With the display set to full brightness in the BIOS, there would be no adjustment in W7, as you have told the BIOS to keep the display on full bright. Now that it is set to normal, you have adjustment hotkeys that work.
My take on it. -
Yup has to be the case mklym; just how and why it got changed is behind me,But it did the trick. It is many time the obvious and simple things. I/we can and will over diagnosed it to death before it gets fixed.
Now to figure out the no system sounds. I feel this again is simple because all other sound functions are working. -
If you have sound out the jack to external speakers, then I would say the sound system is working. Your built in speaker may be shot. You did say the system sounds were limited.
Try going into the BIOS, reset to default, save and reboot, then see what the sound system says. -
WEll like most everything in life it is easy to get off track. For the record when I refer to sound system, This refers to the ability to play music, utilize the speaker out put. This is more often referred to as a sound card/program that gives used the ability to hear music or video programs from the computer. I have sound and full functions in this respect. That I call sounds system.
I am addressing "SYSTEM SOUNDS" a totally different animal. I have no sound coming from the computer small front speaker. (in terms as bings, bongs or beeps). These are all signals of the system. henc "system sounds".
I have check all the obvious, it is not rocket science basic computer operation on this one. (I guess if its not working its for sure computer science).
To clarify my statement on "I did have a few sound when I first got the TB" but the sounds could not be increased or decreased. It was no time I had no "system sounds". This was about the time I lost the screen dimming capability (with is now working).
Update I just installed hotkey setup function and it is now showing up in my program list. I have checked and set it up as directed. BUT still no sounds. -
Sorry! but I don't want to go back on a first page. I'm a bit lazy to read all of the thing, lo....Anyway, the CF-30MK2 machine use the sound max driver. Use the vista driver and it work just fine. Did you installed Win 7 by a fresh copy or just upgraded? I've been done this for sometimes and If you just rely on the native sound that windows installed. There is a blast of static sound when you boot the machine which is pretty annoying and it is telling you that it is not the right driver installed.

With the headphones plugged into the speaker output I do hear the system sounds.
So much of the computer is working. By this process of elimination I am leaning to what mkly mentioned.
A possible bad speaker. It would appear I will need to open up the computer to get to the speaker for by-pass test.
Anyone been down this road?

I got the TB from someone that did the upgrade...

Just wait for a couple of thing before you do that. Uninstall the sound driver and check the box (delete driver) then reboot. Let windows install the driver coz it will autom.. detect by win...s Now! Install the sound max driver for CF-30Mk2 (vista driver) then reboot and if still doesn't work go to device manager and upgrade the driver by Browse my comp.. then "let me pick driver "then point where the extracted driver located(util/driver/sound), Then follow instruction all the way till it finish. Again reboot, again go to extracted file and if there is registry editor file, installed it by double clicking and then hit OK. Good luck.
