I just picked up a CF-29 Mk2. Finally upgrade from our CF-27. I have a couple of questions

    1) Is the CF-28 and 30 the same housing or at least dimension as the 29 series?

    2) is anyone making an affordable toughbook model dedicated car platform? I ask cause I am making a couple right now.

Housings are different for each model, sometimes different between mks. Do you mean a vehicle mount? Not trying to flame you, but why re-invent the wheel? There are a lot of vehicle mounts for Toughbooks available cheap(even by my standards) on fleabay. So many of these units were used in police, rescue, and service vehicles. Mounts of all shapes, sizes and costs are already out there.
From what I know, the mount for a CF 27.28 and 29 are the same except for the power connector. The Cf 30 is a different animal.

When you can buy mounts that originally sold for up to $700 used for $20 -$200 the only reason to make your own would be if you needed something truly custom where a Panasonic/LedCo/Gamber-Johnson/Ram mounts won't work for you

My 30 MK1 docks on the same dock as my 29 did.

I find the stuff from Ram abit flimsy for what I do with them but they
do have some metal versions that look ok. I tend to stick with Gamber,Lind and Ledco stuff for the rough and tough use.

Thanks for the replies and links guys. I knew there were mounts out there but they are either "universal will fit your model" or are little big and clumsy. I am trying to keep ours thin, about 3/4" of an inch or less.

My wife and I do Expedition style off-roading with our Jeep so any of the plastic ones were ruled out. We found them to be flimsy. Also speaking with a few others that have been into expedition a lot longer then us mention the plastic universal or not have a lot of flex in them and show vibrations.

I am not looking for full docking, really just a platfom to secure the LT down. all that gets plugged into is the power and the USB.

I already have the floor mount and 2 axis hinge built. It doesnt move PERIOD. I am still waiting on the platform to come back from waterjet.

If you have any more links that would be greatly appriciated.

and by the way... This is a great site. The Toughbook community really feels like a Jeep community, always modding, having more than one and always sharing ideas and parts with others.
