    Hi everyone
I'm new to the forums and got a hold of a CF-29 mk4 (CF-29GC83). It's had a long rough life but seems to still be in good order. When i got it it was running xp with a touch screen. But the wifi would barely work and it was dreadfully slow. I upgraded it to windows 7. Now the wifi works well but it is still very slow. it takes a good 5-10 minutes to boot up. I used cf 30s and 31s at work but don't really deal with anything except our programs as we have a shop that attends to them. I was wondering about the memory and hard drive upgrades. It shows that it has 19Gb of hard disc space and 512mb of ram. I was wondering what options i have of speeding it up. Thanks to all

Welcome to the Panasonic Toughbook forum

If you look at the top of these threads you will see the FAQ's. Have a good look and this will give you a better idea what you will need to do. There is a great thread on W7 on a 29

Upgrade the ram to 1.5gb. Get a 7200 rpm drive about 80gb or so just for everyday use and read that link, there is a lot of crap running in the background that can be turned off.

And there is always Mint 15....zooooooom. :D

    Welcome to the forum ALR.

Unless there are specific Windows programs, that will not run in Wine, that you have to use, I would advise looking at Linux Mint Xcfe, v15 or 16, as a lightweight OS.
I have many 29LimaTangoQuebec units and they run very nice with 1.5GB ram and a 7200 rpm hdd, much quicker than with any flavor of Windows.
Another advantage is the huge amount of software available for download and installation, for free, without even having to open a browser.
Plus there is a growing group of Linux users, mainly Mint, led by Sadlmkr, who can try and help with any questions/problems.
