Okay so I ordered myself a CF29 for work off ebay and just wanted some feedback as to what people think about the CF29. I'm not sure the full model number, but I do know its a 1.3Ghz and whatnot. Any and all feedback will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

If you give use the model number we can tell you alot about the computer. With what you're giving us all we can tell you is that it's a CF-29 toughbook with a 1.3GHz Centrino Mobile CPU.

Rod, why don't you tell Geo WHAT HE'S WON!?!? -
Well mnem, Geo has himself a very rugged and durable machine. Able to withstand a 3ft drop, being outside in the rain, having your young dragon spit up all over it, or daddy dragon sitting on it. The battery life is very descent, especially with the MBB, and the screen is pretty good outdoors as well.

You are all a bunch of smart asses aren't you. lol
I don't know the model number yet. I guess what i'm trying to find out is what peoples takes are on the cf 29 and how much they like it. I know its only a 1.3, but other than that how is it performance wise?
Thanks again everyone! -
Geo... Welcome to the forum!
Well... You've heard one side of it... But I'll tell you another.
It depends on the seller. I've bought some great deals of of ebay... And I've had some VERY bad ones. Just make sure that the seller has sold MANY of what you want to buy and has 99%+ feedback and generally you're safe. You may end up with a pristine Toughbook that never saw "real" duty... Or you may end up with one that has... And barely lived to tell the story. I've seen and heard of both ends of the spectrum. (As have the forum members here!)
Hopefully you will end up with a great machine... But either way... THIS is the place to come if you need help or info. We have the most knowledgeable and helpful crowd ANYWHERE on the Internet... BAR-NONE!
So relax and plan on enjoying your new purchase! If you have questions... Search and read first to get a basic understanding and then ask your questions using what you have learned to that point. You'll have a screaming laptop that can withstand everything short of a nuclear blast.... And could most likely take that under some circumstances!
Enjoy!

Nice model , good enough hardware even today running xp

The nicer CF-29s will be good for years to come... As long as you stay on top of it and don't add memory intensive software. JMHO

Toughbook,
I was reading in one of your posts that your friend or whomever was looking for a CF28 HD Caddy. I was just on ebay and saw one for just under $30.
Where is a good place to get batteries for the CF29?? -
I was just reading around the forums and read something about wifi. The system is coming without an os am i going to have a problem with the wifi or will i need to install different software?
-
It will probably have an B/G card installed if it is an MK3. The software is included on Recovery Disks or you can read the stickies at the top of the forum for links on where to get the software and how to look it up to make sure you get the correct stuff. DO NOT go to any NON-Panasonic website to get your drivers. There are several well-meaning people out there that have tried to make it easy for people to find drivers but they don't have them ordered correctly in all cases. Trying to trace an issue because you have one bad driver can be maddening... So stick to Panasonic sites!

Sory... I wasnt meaning your network on that one... I was thinking about Toughbookdrivers.com... SOme of the members have had issues with the drivers from there and a few other sites... I KNOW yours is correct. -
toughbook, i have a question, how do i upgrade a cf-29 as far as processor speed goes, from 800 mhz to about 1.1 mhz
-
I'm not Toughbook, but I know the answer anyways.
First off - If you have a CF-29, it should be AT LEAST a 1.2GHZ Pentium M processor; that was the Mk1. Later models are faster. If you have an 800mhz model, it is most likely a CF28.
How to upgrade the processor?
You get an assistant to place a floor jack under the seat of your wheelie chair; have them pump the handle until your arse is about 2 1/2 feet off the floor. Next, have your assistant slide your old CF-28 off the table, then slide a nice Cf-29 Mk5 in its place. Have your assistant jack your arse back down into place and enjoy your nice shiny new-ish Toughbook. Pay your assistant well.
The short version is, you really can't. The processors in full-rugged ToughBooks are soldered to the mainboard; each new model includes revisions that often make a MB swap unfeasable except for SOME immediately successive models, and usually, the difference is only a few hundred MHZ - not nearly enough to be worth the hassle.

In other News, what's old is new again! So dust off those 45s and twist the night away!!! -
okay so i got my cf29e so mark 2 and everything works great, but i find that the screen is a tad dim. Is there anything i can do to change that?
-
Did you turn it up fully using the Fn+F2 keys ?
Alex -
I tried that, but it doesnt work. Do i need to install the hotkey app for that to work?
-
Download all drivers and applications regarding hotley for your mk-2
Alex -
In addtion to Alex adviced. You must install all the drivers for your unit in order to use all the fuction/feature of an specific unit.

okay so i went to the Panasonic config thing on their page and it says that my tb has the transmissive screen and gps. How do i get both of those to work??? ive installed the hotkey apps and got that working, but cant get the screen to go any brighter. Any ideas???? FYI... the complete model number for my tb is cf-29eqpgkkm.
thanks for all your help! -
Geostar... Welcome to the forum... There are roughly 100 threads about hotkey installation in addition to the stickies. Do you have a Owners Manual yet? You may want to read one for your version so that you are 100% sure about what their functions are first.
The confusing thing about some of the hotkeys is that some are programs and some are drivers. Some are installed by double-clicking on them and some are installed by device manager.
Please take some time to read some of the stickys... I think your questions will be answered fairly quickly. -
AS teo stated install all applicable drivers
The gps will need a software program to make it work , do a google search for street mapping software if thats what you want
Alex -
Yeah i installed the hotkey apps and i can use the f1 and f2. Its at max brightness, but it still seems kinda dim.
-
ohlip -
full model is cf-29eqpgkkm its a 13 inch screen.
-
It might be that there are a ton of hours on the screen.... It does happen. I've come acros 2-3 CF-29s that are dim.
You can play around with the Gamma settings, contrast, brightness, etc to make it a little brighter. But that is more of a fine tuning thing. It might be worth a try though... -
what is the little slot just about the battery bay?
-
sorry that suppose to be above.

Teo, I LOVE YOUR AVATAR! I was thinking I would make this mine (from that article that I posted on my forums lol) but Then I figured someone else would!
