Replace the hard drive with the samsung 160GB
Upgrade the ram by adding a kingston 256MB stick

Welcome to the forum! If you spend some time reading the stckies... If it doesn't answer your questions... It will at LEAST allow you to ask the question you then need to know!

These two options are pretty much the only and best ways to increase "Speed", I agree with Alex 100%. Other items are nice mods but they arent exactly going to make it go any faster, they will just make it tougher or cooler lol ;)

Well eliminating some of the services that you don't use or need will absolutely increase the speed of the system. Little things like the super annoying "Balloon Help" are all demanding their share of processor time and slowing the system down as a whole. Take a look at the "Safe Settings" suggested on the Black Viper site, you can always return everything to the defaults, but I have never seen a person do it yet across the board.

I ran WinXP Pro SP3 successfully on a 400 MHz P3 equipped CF-M34JA2BEMCDP for a few years just like this. It had only 384MB of RAM.

    Good luck!

As I said in my earlier post, Read Black Vipers Guide to XP Services, SP3 version.

This does not involve the Registry, but shutting down unneeded services in Administrative Tools.

You get there by going to START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL > ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS > SERVICES.

Read the guide carefully, it explains all of this and you should do fine. I would urge you to stick with the Safe Settings. Write back if you have an issue and ultimately tell me if your system does not run faster. :D

    Welcome!!

Step one: Get rid of CF-28
    Step two: Get CF-30
Step three: Enjoy the MUCH faster speed of a dual core :D

    I'm just being vexatious... Enjoy!

    Rob,

It took me a while to realize that a lot of our forum members come from 3rd world countries and/or don't have the cash to spend and/or had a Magic Toughbooks fall into their lap... So they want to deal with what they have...Not go out and buy the next newest thing.

I was on the learning curve myself for a while... ;)

Or they just like upgrading and modifying to suit there own needs
    For example
No one needs to run W7 on their older Toughbook, Windows xp is stable and fast , its just that they want to

Nah, I took your response as humorous, I did not think that you meant it any other way. We would all like to have a CF-30! :D

I find I get along with more people if I try and take everything in the best possible way, until proven otherwise.

Yes we would all love to have a CF-30 but even many of us that live in the states cannot afford the hefty $$ price tag of such an animal ,,maybe when they are a few years older and something bigger and better has come to the toughbook line that we cannot afford then we'll get the hand me down CF-30 :D

If only I'd been born wealthy instead of so good looking  P.S. Bozirra welcome this is the place to be , you're in good hands with these guys..
