Well i did it again, found a CF-19 MK2 350.00 while negotiating, took two weeks found a Cf-18 MK4 75.00 Bought it right away, and he told me of a Cf-18 MK 5 so i bought it for 150.00 and then the one with the CF-19 calls finally and i bought it for 140.00. it has issues with the tablet buttons and screen not brightening up. Too many Toughbooks, this is addition to my CF T5, and CF-28. both of which my Granddaughter now has the T5 and my grandson the CF-28. So question on the 18 mk5 and 19 mk2 how much memory can i put in, i see on here way more than the specs say can be used?

Thanks,I couldn't pass them up for the price. i have read all the posts i could find and got very confused, as different posts list more memory than specs show they will accept I will set up the 18 mk5 and 19 mk2 and use the 18 mk4 for parts as a lot will interchange. Mods will be to the 19 as to max memory and SSD drive. In the process of all the searching i found a local ToughBook refurbish/Reseller

I plan on expanding on that data base when I get home. Got three CF-19 projects lying on the bench. I am going to see stuff like if CF-18 lid will work on CF-19. (the top of the 18 to the bottom of the 19) If I can change a Mk1 into a Mk2 CF-19, also changing a touch to a digitizer.

For more info on swapping parts of CF-19. The cf-19MK2 digitizer can be converted to TS or vice versa but the MK1 will not. Posible but need more component and work to be done. Also MK3 TS and Digi.... MK3 to mk2 also no way. I don't know yet about MK4 and MK5 but I'm sure they will.

Interesting projects, i would be interested to know if the TS on a MK3 can go on a TS M2 that would give me the 1000 nit screen.

On the CF-30 for the 1000 nit screen it has dual lights. I think they did the same basic thing on the 19. Not sure, haven't seen it personally on the 19.

I just saw some specs on the MK3 19 and the touch screen is still 540 not 1000 so either i not have a TS or go to MK4 the more i read the less i know. I bought a 28, and several mobile mounts for the 28/29/30 with power supply's and all hookups but way to big for my jeep. I bought a T5 way cheap, but couldn't see screen when i really needed to, so the 18/19s are the right size, and I can live with the lower screen brightness if i have to.

Memory question? will the memory from an 18 MK5 fit a 19MK2? MY 18 has 2 512 sticks, my 19 has a 512 and 1gb stick, i would like to put the 1 in the 18 and buy 2 2gb sticks for the 19.

    It's a lie :)
MK1-2 are ~500nits, though they are much less usually (used).
    MK3 are 1000 nits. Just got 2 USD 350 per item :)

P.S. Digitizer models of CF18 and CF19MK1/2 have 10% brighter screens than touchscreen ones.

RAM from CF-19 MK1-3 will 99% work in CF-18 MK5. You can test it ;)

Yes, but not the viceversa due to cf19 higher clock speed, anyway they will phisically fit the slot.

It will *fit* but if it is original speed in the 18 (PC2-3200) that would not be fast enough as Toughasnails said.

HOWEVER, your statement below is about swapping the other direction, from 19 to 18, which will work fine.

You can definitely put 2 sticks of 2GB PC-5300 or PC2-6400 in the CF-19.

His CF-18 won't boot? I got three one time in an auction that was suppose to be, DOA. I got them all back working. I was just probing around inside with the motherboard out. Then I put it back together so I wouldn't loose any parts. I decided what the hell I would see if it would power on. I was greeted by the Panasonic screen. The I pulled the motherboard out and then put it back in.(I pulled everything even the bios battery). All three went back to working. I sold one to a friend of mine and right at two years later it's still going. I have suggested this to a couple of member that had theirs stop working for some odd reason. I think all but one said theirs started working again. May be worth a try.
